Job Title: Graduate Submarines Electrical Engineer

Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site up to 5 days per week.

Salary: £34,000 Per Annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

Role Description

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer, you’ll be part of the teams developing solutions to complex Engineering challenges across the design and in-service Submarine platforms. You will play a pivotal part in electronic product content, defining and managing requirements, working with suppliers on detailed hardware and software design concepts, alongside supporting the development of sophisticated design processes and testing these complex products. You will maintain existing systems and support the development of new technologies and equipment as well and undertaking fault diagnosis across a broad range of products including industrial control and instrumentation, software driven automation and complex Human Machine Interface.

Core Duties

* Support the design of electrical and electronic products by defining user needs, functional behaviour, and performance requirements.
* Produce clear and structured documentation, including functional requirements, interface definitions, design evidence, and acceptance criteria.
* Work collaboratively with suppliers and engineering teams to develop solutions and confirm designs meet required outcomes and can be integrated, built, and tested effectively.
* Analyse design options, risks, constraints, and system architectures to inform early design decisions.
* Apply core technical skills, including system‑level understanding of electronic principles and the use of modelling and analysis tools to assess functional performance.

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Qualification requirements

You must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a minimum 2:2 bachelor’s degree or a pass at master’s level in the following subjects: Electrical/Electronic Engineering or electrically biased Marine engineering or electrically biased Physics.

Start date: 12th April 2027 Length of contract: Permanent contract
