Overview
Senior Nurse - Infection Control - MRP role at NHS Scotland is a senior infection prevention and control position within the Monklands Replacement Project Team. The post holder will work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver new models of care supported by digital technology and innovation, providing expert infection prevention and control advice throughout construction, commissioning, and operational handover of the new hospital.
Responsibilities
* Apply infection prevention and control principles within the built environment to deliver a safe hospital building for patients, staff and service users.
* Provide IPC advice across the project lifecycle to ensure compliance with healthcare infection control standards and alignment with regulatory and best practice guidance.
* Act as a senior IPC advisor on the project team, collaborating with architects, engineers, planners, contractors, and clinical teams.
* Support commissioning of clinical areas, including validation of ventilation, water systems, and sterile environments, and ensure cleaning, disinfection, and environmental monitoring meet IPC standards prior to occupation.
* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for safe operational start-up and provide documentation, reports, and recommendations at each project stage.
* Represent IPC on relevant committees and project boards and ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and professional standards for infection prevention in healthcare facilities.
* Deliver training and awareness sessions for contractors and hospital staff on infection risks in healthcare construction and ongoing IPC topics.
What we'll need you to bring
* Design and Planning
o Advise architects, engineers, and planners on infection prevention requirements in clinical and non-clinical areas.
o Review and approve design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with national guidance and healthcare infection control guidance.
o Conduct or participate in HAI SCRIBE assessments for construction and operational activities.
* Construction
o Collaborate with the construction team to implement infection control precautions (dust control, water safety, ventilation management, segregation of works).
o Review contractor method statements and risk assessments related to infection risks.
o Monitor site activities for compliance with infection prevention requirements.
o Provide training and awareness sessions for contractors and hospital staff on infection risks in healthcare construction.
* Commissioning and Handover
o Support commissioning of clinical areas, including validation of ventilation, water systems, and sterile environments.
o Ensure cleaning, disinfection, and environmental monitoring are completed to IPC standards prior to occupation.
o Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for safe operational start-up.
* Governance and Compliance
o Act as a subject matter expert in relevant committees and project boards.
o Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and professional standards for infection prevention in healthcare facilities.
o Provide clear documentation, reports, and recommendations at each project stage.
o Create and deliver presentations as requested.
* Key Skills and Competencies
o Strong knowledge of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention and control principles.
o Familiarity with healthcare facility design, engineering controls, and construction-related infection risks.
o Ability to interpret and apply relevant technical standards (e.g., SHTM 03-01, SHTM 04-01, SHPNs).
o Excellent risk assessment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
o Strong communication and negotiation skills, able to liaise with clinical teams, stakeholders, contractors, architects, and senior management.
