Overview
As an HSE Advisor at Barhale, you will support projects across civil, mechanical and electrical schemes, ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental management systems and promoting a safe working environment across the organization.
Responsibilities
* Assist site teams and managers with inspections, recognising hazards and minimising risks.
* Provide consistent and accurate HSE advice to employees and support local HSE initiatives.
* Support the communication and promotion of monthly HSE themes and occupational health value.
* Compile and communicate HSE alerts following incidents to promote learning, prevention and continual improvement.
* Undertake timely incident investigations per CG151‑01 guidance, identifying immediate, underlying and root causes.
* Produce HSE alerts in consultation with the HSE Manager.
* Monitor, verify and support the reporting of HSE statistics for regions monthly.
* Log all significant PI’s, minor injuries, RIDDORS, SIF and PSIF incidents onto Envoy and maintain related investigations.
* Support the production of monthly HSE reports for the HSE Manager and Regional Lead.
* Monitor regional HSE trends and highlight areas for improvement.
* Provide monthly HSE statistics as directed by the HSE Manager and Client.
* Log Cardinal Rule non‑conformances and include outstanding closures in monthly reports.
* Coordinate data and actions from contacts with Enforcement Agencies, ensuring completion of commitments.
* Provide support and advice per HSE Advisor responsibilities in CPR636 and associated processes.
* Complete HSE detailed inspections and advisory notes per month.
* Support regions in delivering local HSE improvement and strategic outputs.
* Review weekly Positive Intervention Reporting, determine root causes and advise Front Foot actions.
* Support Line Managers with 'Back to Work' risk assessments for fit workers and expectant mothers.
* Onboard new staff onto the HSE Management System within the first month of employment.
* Provide internal auditor directions and support for regional audits.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (ideal IOSH).
* CEnv or equivalent (ideal association with ISEP).
* Client‑facing orientation.
* Analytical skills for interpreting detailed information and regulations.
* People skills – ability to liaise with staff/operatives of all levels.
* Excellent use of the MS Office suite.
* Effective communicator with strong presentation and report‑writing skills.
* CSCS Safety Professional card.
Desirable
* Extensive HSE experience in civil engineering, including rail sector exposure.
* Level 3 AET or PTTLS.
* Incident investigation course – Kelvin TOPSET or equivalent (1‑day training).
