Consultant Oncoplastic Surgeon

The appointment is for a full time Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to work in the established Breast, Endocrine, Skin and Sarcoma Surgery Unit at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. The appointee will be required to deliver a comprehensive breast surgical service. Participation in the general on call rota is not required.
This is a replacement post due to retirement. The successful candidate will join an established team of 7 dual specialty Consultant Surgeons together delivering a breast, endocrine and surgical skin and soft tissue service with clinical duties across both Poole and Bournemouth hospital sites.
UHD is the designated Cancer Centre for Dorset and hosts the Dorset Breast Screening Programmes. The Breast Unit provides a full screening and symptomatic service to the local population of East Dorset, treating a total of approximately 700 new breast cancers a year which makes us one of the largest breast units in the country. The Breast Unit is recognised for its contribution to national and international clinical trials and is supported by a team of dedicated breast research nurses.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a team of 5 Consultant Breast Surgeons. The well-established multidisciplinary team includes Consultant Clinical and Medical Oncologists, dedicated specialist radiology (including nuclear medicine), histopathology and specialist CNS services. Delivery of the diagnostic and surgical breast service is supported by a team of 4 advanced nurse practitioners and 1 specialty doctor.

This is a full time post attracting 10PAs.
Example of Weekly Commitment:
* Theatre Operating 2-3 PAs
* Outpatient Clinic 3 PAs
* MDT 1 PA
* Admin 1.25 PA
* SPA 1.5 PAs
* The job plan will include 1.5 SPAs
* The post will have appropriate secretarial support and office space within the secretariat.
* The post will include some flexible working but will incorporate identified fixed sessions in which to take a half day.
* The applicant will be expected to work across both Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital sites

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* FRCS or equivalent
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
* FRCS or equivalent, Affiliation to one of the Royal Colleges
* MD/MS or equivalent
* Member of relevant Specialist Society
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Breast Surgery at Specialist Registrar level
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion within all aspects of Breast Disease & Management
* Validated training logbook of index breast procedures
* Ability to demonstrate competence in index breast interventions
* Competent in breast reconstruction and reduction
* Ability to obtain diagnostic quality breast cytology and core biopsy samples
* Oncoplastic fellowship
* Experience in performing chest wall perforator flaps
* Familiarity with recruitment into national breast clinical trials
* Experience in breast ultrasound
* Demonstrates experience and awareness outside speciality
* Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and post graduates
