Job overview

Job role will be dependent on the individual projects assigned but in general will cover the following:

To provide proactive research support as part of the South Tees Academic Centre for Surgery (ACeS) core team to Investigators and departments seeking to set up and manage research studies

Clinical Trial Coordination responsibilities for ACeS studies.

To provide support to research teams in relation to research governance responsibilities.

Analysis, interpretation and comparison of large amounts of complex research information provided both from local and national sources, providing summaries and highlighting trends/issues as required

In association with the research teams, actively manage project specific activities, ensuring identified milestones and recruitment targets are met.

Prepare detailed study timelines for specific projects, monitoring study progress on a continuous basis, with a clear understanding of any impact on the critical path.

Identify mechanisms for the early identification of potential issues in meeting milestones and development of potential solutions, including revisions to financial flows, along with the investigator and other teams.

Co-ordination of various management, steering group and project-specific team meetings to ensure appropriate progress against objectives and milestones is maintained.

Ability to write proposals, project plans, funding applications in support of the ACeS service.

Main duties of the job

Regularly produce documents and reports pertaining to South Tees Academic Centre for Surgery (ACeS) activity the post holder will be required to use Word, Outlook and Excel on a daily basis, as well as other specific research packages.

Maintain own information (both electronic and paper-based) monitoring reports, study set-up updates, recruitment reports, etc. utilising study databases, contributing to research information portals.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the ACeS communication channels, social media and website.

Ensure that participants for clinical trials/research studies have been enrolled in accordance with the eligibility criteria stipulated in trial protocol in liaison with site research teams.

Ensure all clinical trials/research studies are conducted in accordance with the laws, guidelines and frameworks which govern the set up and conduct of clinical research within the UK.

Liaises with the Patient, Carer and Public Involvement Coordinator as required.

Provision of advice to CIs on relevant Trust financial governance arrangements relating to Trust expenditure (for example: procurement of goods and services)

This post will report to the ACeS Leadership Team at James Cook University Hospital.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Knowledge of clinical and research terminology
2. Up to date computer/keyboard skills and working knowledge of computer-based packages Word and Excel
3. The ability to access, input and retrieve electronic patient information
4. Evidence of continuous personal and professional development
5. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of staff and patients and carers face to face, on the telephone or in writing.
6. Ability to work across boundaries, integrating with multidisciplinary staff in relation to research trials

Desirable criteria

7. Ethical and R&D approval process Principles of trial methodology
8. Preparation of presentations

Experience

Essential criteria

9. Previous experience in research/hospital/NHS/healthcare setting
10. Knowledge and experience of maintaining complex relationships
11. Basic understanding of the NHS
12. Basic understanding of clinical trials

Qualifications

13. Health related degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience.

Desirable criteria

14. A research qualification
15. GCP Training
16. Attendance at leadership, development or improvement courses
