Family/Client Pets: Two cats Recruiter: Rachael (url removed) About this client/child: Peter (32) is bright man with a cheeky sense of humour. He enjoys travelling, museums, art galleries, music (rock, soul and opera), eating out and outdoor activities. He loves science, in particular astronomy and astrophysics and has been awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Science by at the Open University. Peter also keeps a close interest in world politics. Peter has cerebral palsy and whilst unable to communicate verbally, with support, he uses a Neuromotor communication system very effectively. He is mobile and uses a wheelchair for longer distances. Peter will require assistance with all his personal care needs and daily living activities. He is emotionally vulnerable and can experience anxiety, especially in social situations, affected by people he does not know, and crowded spaces. He is highly intelligent and can feel depressed at times about his disabilities. He needs a lot of support emotionally, and a stable environment with consistent understanding staff. Overview of role: We are seeking a dedicated Support Worker to join Peter’s team to provide support with all aspects of his daily living both at home and in the community. When out and about, Peter requires 2:1 support — one person to focus on facilitating his communication and the other to attend to his physical needs. Your role will include delivering full personal care, supporting Peter with his morning routines, health and physiotherapy exercises, and assisting with meal preparation (including cutting food and offering guidance as needed). Peter thrives on structure and benefits from a consistent approach wherever possible. You will also support Peter in enjoying his leisure activities, such as swimming, eating out, visiting museums, and socialising. On rare occasions, in the event of an emergency (for example, if Peter’s mum was unwell), an overnight stay may be required. A higher Salary of £40,000 Gross per annum will be considered for candidates with a degree in the relevant fields listed above. Who this job would suit: This role would be ideal for a Support Worker who is empathetic, vigilant, and reliable, with the ability to respect Peter’s independence while offering sensitive guidance and always acting in his best interests. An understanding and patient approach is especially important on days when Peter is feeling more anxious. The family is looking for someone who is ready to make a long-term commitment; Peter forms very close emotional attachments to his Support Workers and depends on them fully. You will become Peter’s voice, so the training provided in his communication system is both in-depth and highly specific. The greatest benefits for Peter are seen after the first year, once both the theoretical and practical elements of the training have been applied. Because of this, a high standard of spoken and written English is essential to succeed in this role. What’s great about this job: This is a wonderful opportunity to make a big impact on Peter’s life. In turn you will receive comprehensive training on Peter’s communication system and future opportunities for career development such as counselling or training in CBT. Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews
