Assistant Financial Accountant
Reports to: Financial Accountant
Employment Basis: Permanent
Location: Knowsley, Liverpool (Hybrid working available)
We are looking for a detail-driven Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Finance team at Clarke Energy. This role plays a key part in supporting accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls and helping the business meet its month-end, statutory and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month‑End
* Support the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
* Maintain an accurate and up-to-date fixed asset register, ensuring timely updates and completeness.
* Circulate active asset listings to departmental owners and follow up on status confirmations.
* Post and review INNIO invoices, including monthly reconciliations.
* Review and correct historic or incorrect expense postings where appropriate.
* Review and report on monthly departmental spend.
* Prepare and issue monthly intercompany invoices, including expenses, management charges and notional interest.
* Ensure intercompany balances are accurate, fully reconciled and supported.
* Assist the Financial Accountant with ad hoc projects, process improvements and data clean-up initiatives.
* Contribute to improving financial controls, documentation and reporting efficiency.
Tax, VAT & Statutory Reporting
* Perform monthly reviews of UK tax packs.
* Collate information for quarterly UK VAT returns to support review and submission, ensuring accuracy and minimal review points.
* Support statutory reporting requirements, including Office for National Statistics submissions.
Cashflow, Treasury & Banking
* Prepare, reconcile and roll forward the UK cashflow forecast.
* Monitor and report weekly cash balances.
* Provide cover support for treasury postings and related accounting entries when required.
* Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards are adhered to at all times.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Studying towards a professional accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
* Previous experience in a finance or accounting role.
* A strong understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping and financial accounting principles.
* Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Desirable
* Experience working in a fast-paced or high-volume environment.
* Experience using ERP systems, with Microsoft Dynamics knowledge advantageous.
* Previous involvement in month-end close processes.
* A proactive mindset, with an interest in identifying inefficiencies and supporting continuous improvement.
