Job Description

Role: Safeguarding & Attendance Officer

Academy: Outwood Primary Academy Park Hill

Start Date: 01/09/2026

Salary (Actual Salary): £22,571.56 to £23,321.84 (Grade 7)

Working Pattern: 32.5hrs per week – Monday to Friday, Term Time Only + 2 Days

Are you skilled in both driving attendance improvement and managing complex child protection issues? Join us as a Safeguarding & Attendance Officer, where you will provide crucial support to the Senior Leadership Team by ensuring both statutory safeguarding compliance and strategic attendance improvement are achieved. This role is vital, requiring a high degree of specialist knowledge and the ability to liaise professionally and effectively across all external agencies.

Welcome From The Principal

Outwood Primary Academy Park Hill is a primary academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield. We are a welcoming and supportive academy, determined to provide the very best education for every child. We place children at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

OPA Park Hill joined the Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT) in 2018. As a member of the Outwood Family we believe in putting Children First, raising standards and transforming lives.

If you have any questions or would like to visit the school, please contact the school on 01924 303655 or email enquiries@parkhill.outwood.com

Responsibilities

You will provide integrated support for attendance and safeguarding, driving attendance strategies through communication with parents, preparing detailed attendance data reports, and processing formal measures like referrals for Fixed Penalty Notices. Crucially, you will manage the academy's safeguarding overview: responding appropriately to child protection issues, meticulously recording safeguarding incidents and causes for concern.

The role requires attending and providing reports following multi‑agency meetings, including Child Protection and MARAC, and initiating referrals to external services such as Social Care Direct.

Qualifications

Essential requirements include demonstrating specialist safeguarding and attendance knowledge. Candidates must possess exceptional communication skills suitable for a wide range of audiences, coupled with outstanding time‑management and organisational capabilities. The successful applicant must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, and the proven ability to work on their own initiative. The role requires the ability to interpret complex situations and the capacity to relate sympathetically to students and recognise potential child safeguarding issues. Experience of working in a school environment and in a school attendance related role is desirable.

Benefits

* Secure Pay & Pension: Competitive salary, automatic pay progression, and enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme.
* Training & Progression: Access to diverse CPD opportunities, including apprenticeships and vocational qualifications.
* Flexibility & Leave: Flexible family policies, enhanced occupational benefits (with no qualifying period), and 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays for non‑term time staff. (Holiday for part‑time staff is calculated on a pro‑rata basis)
* Wellbeing & Perks: Dedicated mental well‑being strategy, free on‑site parking, employee discounts, and access to a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education. Online checks will be carried out on all shortlisted candidates, and all appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and checks regarding suitability to work with children.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons.
