About Us:

Aberdeen Performing Arts is a vital part of Aberdeen and Scotland’s cultural landscape, home to three iconic city centre venues: His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall, and the Lemon Tree. We are a multi-award-winning arts charity, a vibrant hub at the heart of city life, inspiring, exploring, and engaging through live performance and creative projects.

We curate a diverse programme including musical theatre, music, dance, comedy, theatre, spoken word, and festivals for local audiences and visitors, establishing our role as a key arts destination in the North East of Scotland.

We believe engaging in the arts benefits everyone’s lives, and our Take Part workshops demonstrate our commitment to arts without boundaries, ensuring creative engagement is accessible to all.

Our Take Part workshops have transformed lives through creative projects across the city and the North East.

Our Mission: Creating a Spark

Our Vision: A vibrant, sector-leading, cultural hub at the heart of city life— inspiring, exploring, and engaging through live performance and creative projects.

About the Role:

Aberdeen Performing Arts runs a year-round programme of creative activities called Take Part, which includes Beats & Rhymes, a music-making workshop for young people of secondary school age. Our team of facilitators, all active in the Aberdeen music scene, help participants develop skills in lyric writing, sampling, mixing, recording, and performing.

The Creative Assistant role is essential for the smooth operation of the workshops and is ideal for someone interested in how the arts support young people in exploring and developing their creativity.

The programme takes place in our venues over three 10-week terms: August to November, January to March/April, and April to June.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support facilitators in delivering and evaluating workshops.
* Manage administrative tasks such as keeping registers and providing feedback on workshop activities.
* Help ensure the wellbeing, health, and safety of all participants.
* Carry out the role of First Aider within workshops (training provided if needed).
* Ensure adherence to Aberdeen Performing Arts’ child protection policy.
* Meet and greet young people and parents, and accompany participants to and from the studio.
* Assist with setting up before workshops and tidying afterward.

Person Specification:

* Interest in the arts and their role in supporting young people's potential.
* Experience participating in arts activities.
* Commitment to equality and inclusion.
* Organized, reliable, with effective communication skills.
* Keen to learn new skills and open to training.
* Enthusiastic, motivated, and a team player.
* First Aid training (if not already held) and a satisfactory PVG check are required.

The Creative Assistant may be asked to assist with additional work during Light the Blue Festival, our annual festival for and by young people, held in June. Any additional work and fees will be discussed and agreed prior to participation.

Additional Information:

* Main contact: Producer for Participation, reporting to the Head of Creative Engagement.
* Fee: £22.05 per 1.5-hour workshop, paid upon invoice submission at weeks 5 and 10. This includes planning, delivery, and travel.
* Workshops are scheduled on Thursdays from 18:30 to 20:00 during three terms:
* Term 1: 25 August – 15 November (October break 13-27 October)
* Term 2: 12 January – 24 March (February break 7-13 February)
* Term 3: 13 April – 20 June, including Light the Blue Festival (2-14 June approx., TBC)

Applicants can also send their CV and cover letter explaining why they are suitable for the role, what they would bring, and why creative opportunities are important for young people. Video or audio applications are accepted, with a maximum length of 5 minutes, sent via WeTransfer to recruitment@aberdeenperformingarts.com. Support is available for applicants with access requirements. We offer a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for disabled or care-experienced applicants who meet the essential criteria.

We are committed to diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

This position does not qualify for visa sponsorship under the skilled worker route, so sponsorship is not available.
