A large and well-regarded primary academy in South Yorkshire is seeking a meticulous and proactive HR & Compliance Officer to join its senior administrative team. This is a pivotal operational role within a busy 3–11 setting serving over 500 pupils, supporting both the Headteacher and School Business Manager in maintaining high standards of safeguarding, staff compliance and workforce management. The school is known locally for its strong leadership, inclusive ethos and well-structured internal systems. Administrative and HR functions are taken seriously and viewed as central to the smooth and safe running of the school. The Role This position focuses on three key areas: HR administration, safeguarding compliance and statutory record-keeping. HR Administration You will oversee: Staff recruitment administration from advert to appointment Safer recruitment documentation and pre-employment checks Maintenance of the Single Central Record Contract variations and payroll liaison Absence monitoring and reporting Support for appraisal documentation and CPD tracking Personnel file management in line with GDPR The school employs over 70 staff including teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral staff and support teams, so accuracy and organisation are critical. Compliance & Safeguarding Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and School Business Manager, you will: Ensure all safeguarding checks are up to date and auditable Maintain training records (Prevent, First Aid, KCSIE) Coordinate compliance documentation for audits and trust reviews Support health & safety monitoring processes Prepare documentation for Ofsted and local authority visits The school has a strong safeguarding culture and expects high standards of record-keeping and vigilance. About You Previous HR or school administration experience Strong understanding of safer recruitment and compliance processes Confident maintaining a Single Central Record Highly organised with strong attention to detail Comfortable using school MIS systems (SIMS, Arbor or equivalent) Calm under pressure and able to prioritise effectively Experience in a primary school setting would be advantageous but is not essential.
