Our Supply Chain and Manufacturing team are problem-solvers, sourcing, producing, and delivering our much-loved brands to delight customers around the globe. Over half of Diageo's 27,000+ people work in Supply Chain and Manufacturing. It's an intricate and sophisticated operation resulting from logistical, manufacturing, and technical collaborations.
We operate Guinness packaging facilities at Marshalls Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Runcorn, North West England, producing canned, bottled, and kegged products for Ireland, UK, and export markets. Significant investments are underway at both locations.
This role is based at Runcorn, an 18-acre site running a 24/7 operation with 4 rotational crews. It has 2 bottling lines, 2 canning lines, and 1 kegging production line. The site produces over 90 SKUs with 16 different beer/liquid types, averaging 23 million cases annually.
About the role
As a Flexible Craft Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in providing maintenance and continuous improvement skills to enhance safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and asset care.
You will be responsible for ensuring all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules are completed on time and to standard to minimize downtime.
Supporting installation, commissioning, and testing as needed, you'll work closely with operators, engineers, and team leaders to perform autonomous maintenance, optimize machine setups, and support growth in equipment capability.
You will participate in shift start meetings and performance reviews to address persistent issues and lead solution-driven initiatives with the engineering team.
Health and safety compliance is critical, and you'll ensure this is monitored alongside other KPIs and targets.
Key Accountabilities
* Adhere to Diageo health, safety, environmental, and food safety standards, complying with legislative procedures.
* Maintain a safe and organized workplace following Safety and 5S MMS practices.
* Provide electrical and mechanical craft resources to the Operations Team.
* Utilize SAP for reporting and recording completion of tasks.
* Raise 5 Why's as per trigger points and work proactively with operators and team leaders to resolve issues and improve processes.
* Participate in line improvement projects.
* Anticipate potential issues and adopt a proactive approach.
About you
You should have completed a recognized apprenticeship or hold a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent in mechanical or electrical engineering within the FMCG industry.
We seek someone who can work well within a team, make effective decisions, and thrive in problem-solving situations.
Excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to propose improvements and evaluate new opportunities. A drive to enhance manufacturing excellence is important.
You will be a time-served mechanical or electrical engineer with knowledge of the opposite core skill, relevant qualifications, and a good understanding of health and safety legislation and environmental risks.
