Overview
Environmental Waste Management Ltd is seeking an experienced and motivated HGV Fitter / HGV Mechanic to join our busy workshop, supporting a diverse and growing fleet of specialist waste‑management vehicles. You'll play a key role in ensuring our vehicles remain safe, compliant and ready to deliver essential services across the region.
If you're a skilled technician with strong diagnostic abilities and experience working on HGVs—or within the waste, transport or utilities sectors—this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive team with long‑term stability and development opportunities.
The working schedule is still to be confirmed; however, there will be an expectation that the role includes working every other weekend, with the possibility of occasional call‑out duties (Additional Premiums Paid).
Duties
* Carry out routine servicing, inspections and repairs on a fleet of HGVs, refuse vehicles, hook loaders, skip lorries and other specialist waste management vehicles.
* Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults using workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.
* Complete MOT preparation, safety checks and compliance documentation in line with DVSA and company standards.
* Perform repairs on engines, brakes, suspension, gearboxes, hydraulics, PTO systems and bodywork components.
* Respond to vehicle breakdowns and support roadside or on site repairs when required.
* Maintain accurate service records, job sheets and defect reports using company systems.
* Follow strict Health & Safety, PPE and environmental requirements at all times.
* Work closely with drivers, supervisors and fleet managers to minimise downtime and prioritise urgent tasks.
* Support general workshop housekeeping and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Provide guidance and support to apprentices or junior fitters when needed.
Requirements
* There will be a vehicle movements and occasional road testing, so relevant HGV licence and CPC hours.
