Job Overview
Manchester Adult Education invites an enthusiastic and motivating English Lecturer to plan, deliver and assess part‑time adult courses throughout the city.
Course Offerings
* Functional Skills/Awards (Entry Level to Level 2)
* GCSE/Higher
* Booster / Support classes
* Delivering functional skills for ESOL learners
Key Responsibilities
* Teach online lessons where appropriate and deliver face‑to‑face lessons across the city, including evening classes
* Work within a committed, supportive team of teachers who help adult learners achieve their goals and secure employment or progress to higher education
* Deliver teaching and learning at a consistently good or outstanding standard
* Assess learners against awarding body criteria and course targets to ensure qualification attainment
* Comply with safeguarding procedures and service quality assurance procedures
* Take course leadership responsibilities where applicable
* Participate in team meetings and working groups
* Maintain close liaison and effective communication with other staff regarding learners
* Maintain accurate Learner records, including attendance and achievement
* Keep personal and professional knowledge up to date in the subject area and administration processes
* Represent Manchester Adult Education Services (MAES) positively, both internally and externally
Candidate Profile
We seek candidates who inspire adult learners, helping them improve employment opportunities, confidence and overall well‑being. A proven track record of successfully delivering English courses at varying skill levels, including learners with additional needs, is essential.
Qualifications and Experience
* Professional and academic competence to teach the courses listed
* Experience adopting a range of teaching and learning strategies, both face‑to‑face and online
* Familiarity with e‑learning platforms such as Google Classroom and BKSB, or a willingness to learn
* Commitment to ongoing professional development
* A flexible, organisational and interpersonal approach, facilitating learner engagement and development
* Hold GCSE A*‑C / 9‑4 in English (essential)
* Hold GCSE A*‑C / 9‑4 in Maths (essential)
* Hold a teaching qualification, ideally to Level 5 (subject specialism) or willingness to work toward it
