Description
The Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department is seeking a Lecturer for a full-time teaching nine-month non-tenure track faculty position in Equine and Companion Animal Studies. The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate teaching program, with primary responsibility for courses in equine management, care, and physiology (e.g., Horse Care Techniques and Equine Reproductive Physiology). We are looking for a dynamic instructor to fill this position, which offers the opportunity to engage students in the classroom, laboratory, and experiential learning settings. Candidates with the ability to teach companion animal courses along with equine courses—such as Companion Animal Nutrition, Management and/or Behavior—will be considered especially competitive. Beyond the classroom, the instructor will play a vital role in mentoring students through academic advising, guiding curriculum development, and fostering applied learning experiences. Other responsibilities include horse evaluation programs, supporting companion animal resources, and leading hands-on activities that prepare students for careers in animal sciences. Additional service opportunities at the department, college, and University levels further enhance the impact of this role.
About the Program
Clemson University, a Carnegie R1 institution, offers the only University-level program in South Carolina focused on animal agriculture and allied industries through teaching, research, and Extension/outreach. AVS awards B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Animal and Veterinary Sciences, conducts research to improve animal productivity, health, and product quality/safety, and draws students and scientists from across the world to learn and conduct research in basic and applied technologies for animal health and productivity. AVS emphasizes collaboration with other disciplines and stakeholders focused on improving animal production and health.
Qualifications
* The applicant should have an M.S. or an equivalent or higher degree in Equine and/or Companion Animal Studies or a related field such as Animal Science, Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
* The ability to use a variety of management and training techniques in class will be strongly favored.
* The successful candidate will have clearly demonstrated the ability to collaborate effectively and engage collegially with faculty, staff, students, and the broader academic community while upholding standards of civility, mutual respect, and constructive interpersonal engagement.
