Base pay range
Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is a leading co‑educational independent boarding school. Its 830 pupils, aged 11‑18, are accommodated in 15 boarding houses and taught by over 20 academic departments, with numerous extra‑curricular activities such as sports, music, and drama. The academic programme is supported by business units for marketing, estates, finance, human resources, IT, catering, cleaning, health and safety, and the School’s trading subsidiary. The School employs almost 600 staff and operates seven days a week during term‑time.
Uppingham School Estates Department is a multi‑trade maintenance organisation committed to a policy of delivering a swift response, high‑repair service to the buildings that make up the Estate. The Maintenance Department has an establishment of around 19 posts comprising carpenters, plumbers, decorators and electricians. Many of the School’s buildings are either listed and/or lie in the Uppingham Conservation Area, imposing special demands on the Maintenance Department.

Job Purpose
Uppingham School’s estate covers 80 buildings, 24 listed structures (Grades I–II), and approximately 125 non‑contiguous acres. Reporting to the Mechanical & Electrical Supervisor, the Electrical QS will join a small team of electricians to work proactively and deal with reactive requests from the school users, assist with installation works, deliver replacement and upgrade programmes and complete assigned planned maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out daily/routine maintenance operations on various systems, equipment and appliances, including both single‑phase and three‑phase systems, lighting and alarm systems, etc.
* Carrying out electrical installations and modifications.
* Completing all types of electrical certification, including Minor Works Certificates, Electrical Installation Certificates, Part P certificates, and EICR certificates.
* Overseeing and verifying the quality of electrical installations and services, ensuring compliance with NICEIC standards.
* Attending to breakdowns, fault‑finding, reporting and resolving any issues.
* Working on larger refurbishment projects as part of the team, including the wider Maintenance Team.
* Utilising the School’s facilities management system, via tablet, to pick up, respond to and complete jobs.
* Carrying out other areas of work within the employee’s capability and training.
* Planning preventive maintenance and acting as Senior Electrician.

Skills and Experience
* An appropriate professional (or trade) accreditation (e.g., Level 3 City & Guilds 2230 or equivalent apprenticeship, 18th Edition of IEE regulations).
* Must hold a 2391 qualification (or equivalent) in Inspection and Testing.
* A full driving licence.
* Fire Alarm Installation / Maintenance (desirable).
* Emergency lighting maintenance & remedial works (desirable).
* Ability to diagnose faults and report findings accurately.
* Practical knowledge and experience of electrical maintenance, including power supplies, lighting and alarm systems, motors, controls and portable appliances.
* Both single‑phase and three‑phase systems.
* Maintaining and updating professional knowledge and keeping abreast of current market trends.
* Door Access Systems (desirable).
* Suggesting and introducing energy efficiency and sustainability measures, methods, products and devices (desirable).
* Sustainability / Energy Management (desirable).
* Working on a large and varied estate (desirable).
* Working in a School or further education environment (desirable).
* Working as a multi‑trade team on refurbishment projects (desirable).
* Available for call‑out duties.

39 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
Salary
£33,000 – £36,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
