We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our nursing team. We are a happy, established clinical team looking for the right Health Care Assistant to join us; someone who is compassionate and has a desire to help patients on a day-to-day basis.

We are seeking an NVQ Level 3 qualified (or equivalent) Healthcare Assistant to join our team. Previous experience with SystmOne in a GP Practice is desirable. We offer a salary depending on experience and NHS pension. This is a part-time position, approximately 16 hours per week. You will receive training and support to develop your professional career with us.

We require an experienced HCA who can perform routine tasks and functions of this role. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team delivering safe, high-quality care.

Experience in General Practice is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is organized, self-motivated, a good communicator, and adaptable.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills. They will work alongside our experienced nurses.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Undertaking new patient health checks
2. Supporting the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes
3. Carrying out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
4. Facilitating routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
5. Undertaking wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required
6. Supporting the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
7. Carrying out BMI checks
8. Acting as a chaperone
9. Venepuncture
10. Administering vaccinations/injections
11. Carrying out ECGs
12. Ensuring specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
13. Ensuring all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared
14. Monitoring fridges daily
15. Ensuring clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced according to IPC policy
16. Delivering opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
17. Participating in practice audits and local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
18. Supporting shared learning within the organization


About us

We are a small, friendly GP Practice with around 5,300 patients. Our clinical team includes 3 GP Partners, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and a team of Nurses and Health Care Assistants. We teach Medical Students and are in the process of becoming a training Practice for GP Registrars.


Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

* Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes
* Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required
* Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* Carry out BMI checks as directed
* Act as a chaperone as required
* Venepuncture
* Administer vaccinations/injections
* Carry out ECGs as requested
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for transportation
* Ensure clinical rooms are stocked and prepared for each session
* Monitor fridges daily
* Remove clinical waste and replace sharps bins per IPC policy
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
* Participate in local initiatives to improve service delivery and patient care

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Good general education, including passes at GCSE or equivalent in English and maths
* NVQ Level 3


Experience

* Experience working with the public
* Experience in a GP Practice
