The Role SALARY: From £65,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience REPORTS TO: Head of Commercial Analysis LOCATION: Edinburgh Windward Energy are looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Analyst to undertake valuation assessments for current and prospective investment opportunities. The primary role will be working towards growing and operationalising Bute Energy’s portfolio of wind energy parks, with a further key focus on evaluating expansion opportunities beyond the current Windward development portfolio. The role requires a versatile and highly organised individual with a strong analytical background in financial modelling and valuation techniques, together with excellent attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have commercial experience assessing a variety of renewable energy projects / asset classes, with prior experience in project finance and M&A transactions. The role will be based in Windward Energy’s office in Edinburgh and will require occasional travel within the UK. Main Responsibilities Conducting financial valuation analysis of existing portfolio projects and feasibility studies of new opportunities. Conducting due diligence assessments and valuation models for prospective M&A opportunities – both at the single project level and multi project / platform level. Reporting timely and accurate valuation assessments to the development team and management on the progress of portfolio projects. Working closely with colleagues across the group, including development and commercial teams, to support commercial optimisation of project designs. Conducting extensive scenario analysis to understand the range of potential commercial opportunities and risks affecting projects. Researching market and regulatory issues together with technical topics to ensure that the company’s knowledge base is kept up to date. Evaluation of prospective route to market opportunities, e.g. CfD, PPA and merchant revenue. Development of new financial model structures to assess emerging and innovative investment opportunities – for example: long duration energy storage, EV charging stations, and data centres. Working towards delivering detailed financial appraisals for Final Investment Decision and Financial Close milestones. Producing reliable project finance models and successfully completing lender’s audit processes. Producing written market research reports, briefing notes, and valuation appraisal documents across a range of investment opportunities. What we look for in return Knowledge & Skills Highly numerate with strong analytical skills. Strong understanding of financial valuation concepts and techniques and their practical application in financial modelling. Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with the ability to undertake complex analysis and produce well-structured spreadsheet models. Competent in building excel based financial models with project finance capabilities. Well organized with excellent attention to detail, with the ability to self-audit and produce highly reliable analysis. The ability to present assessment outcomes in a thoughtful, clear, and concise manner to support the business’s decision-making requirements. Knowledge of the GB power market, electricity networks and relevant regulatory matters, with the ability to research complex and evolving topics. Excellent MS Word and PowerPoint skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience & Qualifications Minimum 2:1 in a finance, economics, science, mathematics or engineering related undergraduate degree. A minimum of three years’ experience in a financial valuation role – ideally within the energy sector – and a further two years of professional experience.
