Consultant in Older Adult Mental Health
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
This is a substantive Consultant post within Older Persons Mental Health Services. The post-holder will provide Consultant input into the Older Persons’ Recovery Team and the Memory Assessment and Treatment Service. The post holder will provide Consultant clinical input including face to face patient assessment for complex cases and be one of the senior medical leads. This post makes up a total whole-time equivalence of 1.4wte Psychiatrists. The post holders will work closely together to deliver the borough-wide community services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide Consultant clinical input including face to face patient assessment for complex cases and be one of the senior medical leads. The consultant will be expected to have a flexible weekly timetable designed to respond in a timely and reasonable manner to the needs of patients and carers as well as of team members for support and advice as necessary. The post-holder will work through advice and supervision with direct patient contact as required; this is a district-wide service with rapid throughput of patients and a need for prompt and flexible decision making. This more fluid style of working does not allow for easy quantification of workload. The Consultant is expected to manage their own diary as they determine, with the support of a secretary. As this is a part-time role, the urgent duties of this post during non-clinical sessions are covered flexibly by the other Older Adult Psychiatrists working in the Care Group and where appropriate by Nurse and Psychologist Consultant colleagues.
