Elephant ward is looking to recruit a Senior Staff Nurse

Permanent Full time - Blood, Cells and Cancer Directorate

1x 12-month Secondment, Full time - Blood, Cells and Cancer Directorate

Elephant ward is part of a large Haematology/Oncology department that cares for children from 0-12 years old. We are committed to working in partnership with the community teams and shared care centre in order to provide the highest quality care for children and their families. The unit provides a dynamic environment with opportunities to be involved in research and the care of children undergoing treatments- such as high dose therapy, stem cell rescue and antibody treatments.

This unit is committed to professional development and offer extensive educational opportunities including study to degree and masters level.


Main duties of the job

The job will entail promoting a positive attitude towards continuing improvements in patient care through research and evidence based practice and acting as a mentor to students. The wards promote staff development through challenges and daily support, with excellent opportunities to build upon your knowledge base practice and nursing skills.

To be successful for this role, you will need to meet all the essential criteria outlined in the job description.

Applicants must be chemotherapy competent and have a strong clinical background in paediatric cancer.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

* NMC Registered Nurse (appropriate to clinical speciality)
* Relevant nursing qualification
* Evidence of ongoing professional development relating to clinical speciality

* Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience

* Ability to plan and prioritise care for patients

* Knowledge and understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
* Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
* Understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing
* Understanding of Diversity and Inclusion challenges in the workplace.
* Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
* Demonstrable contribution to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
* Basic knowledge of computer skills
* Understating or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
* Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
* Understanding of principles of clinical governance ( risk management, audit, quality)


Desirable criteria

* Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
* Knowledge of clinical incidents and complaints and reporting
* Previous experience in the relevant specialty of post (preferably in an NHS setting)
