Our thriving Streets team, part of AECOM’s Transportation Business Line, has a vacancy for an Associate Director to take a leading role within the team in our Birmingham office.
The streets team is growing to cater for an increased workload, particularly in Active Travel, Bus Priority, Highway Improvement and Infrastructure schemes. It provides concept, preliminary and detailed designs, community engagement, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of multi-disciplinary transportation and urban realm projects and supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.
The successful candidate will be joining our dedicated team, who are recognised as market leaders in the transportation sector, and are actively involved in the delivery of small to large high profile and impactful projects for a range of both local and national clients.
 
Here’s what we’re looking for:
As an Associate Director, you will have proven team leadership, business development, project management and project delivery experience. You will have appropriate qualifications and demonstrable experience in a technical lead role.
The role would suit a self-motivated and independent individual, a natural leader, looking to utilise the latest technologies advance their career in a dynamic team.
Whilst AECOM offers the benefits of a flexible hybrid working model, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will work from the office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in line with the current working pattern for the Streets team.
 
Key responsibilities:
 * Undertake client-facing project duties, representing AECOM as the key point of contact and develop sound client relationships, being alert to commercial opportunities, identifying emerging opportunities and developing strategies to fully exploit them.
 * Act as an AECOM accredited Project Manager, managing the financial performance of projects. (Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided).
 * Provide technical leadership on projects or packages of work for traffic engineering schemes including the preparation of detailed technical reports, technical specifications and cost estimates.
 * Lead and manage packages of work/design elements undertaken by our overseas design centres.
 * Lead on quality management and ensure compliance of designs with the requirements of the brief, all applicable standards, regulations and AECOM quality procedures.
 * Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team and fulfilling all CDM responsibilities including safety in design.
 * Contribute to work winning through bid management, tender production and preparation of proposals.
 * Contribute proactively to resourcing, recruitment and management of the local and wider teams.
 * Support senior management of the Streets team deputising for Regional Directors/Office leads as required.
 * Establish strong working relationships with other internal teams across AECOM’s business lines including Planning, Structures, Infrastructure, Water, Power, Landscape and our overseas design centres.
 * Support and monitor team skills and ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques, and innovation.
 * Support the technical and professional development of members of the team, sharing knowledge, managing their input into projects and mentoring them towards professional qualification.
 * Undertake line manager responsibilities for junior staff, providing guidance, management and career planning and completing annual performance evaluations.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
 * A successful track record in the project management and delivery of multi-disciplinary transportation engineering schemes
 * Knowledge and experience of relevant design and safety standards (e.g. DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW, LTN 1/20, Manual for Streets, CDM Regulations)
 * An ability to deal directly with clients and engage at a senior level within client organisations.
 * A successful track record of delivery of bids and proposals
 * Experience of team management including technical development and mentoring of staff
 * Experience of successfully managing work delivered by overseas design centres.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 * A relevant degree and Chartered status with a recognised professional institution or equivalent industry experience.
