Senior Data Engineer - Birmingham - Hybrid - Azure - £60,000-£65,000
I am working with a modern, forward-thinking organisation building a high-performing data function. They operate like a private-sector tech team, minimal red tape, quick decision-making, and real autonomy.
As Senior Data Engineer, you will work across the full Azure data ecosystem, delivering clean, reliable data for analytics and BI while engaging directly with stakeholders across the organisation. This is a customer-facing role.
You will also mentor junior engineers, support planning and contribute to continuous improvement within a fast-evolving data team.
You will:
* Build, maintain, and optimise Azure-based data pipelines
* Develop ETL/ELT workflows into the silver layer powering BI
* Work with ADF (critical), SQL, Azure Blob Storage, Power BI, Git & Azure DevOps
* Engage, challenge, and collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation
* Own and lead weekly project check-ins
* Mentor two junior data engineers (peer reviews, planning, work allocation, Scrum)
* Shape future architectural decisions and contribute to continuous delivery improvements
* Support the transition toward next-gen tooling (Fabric, AWS, Snowflake under evaluation)

Key Experience
* Strong experience as a Data Engineer, ideally at senior level
* Excellent stakeholder-facing capability
* Azure Data Factory (must-have)
* SQL for transformations and pipeline development
* Git & Azure DevOps (CI/CD)
* Confidence working end-to-end across the data lifecycle
* Ability to mentor and support junior engineers
Power BI experience is beneficial but not essential, the team is considering Fabric, AWS, or Snowflake next year and takes a tech-agnostic approach.
