Melanie’s Ward cares for older children and teenage patients from all specialties within Children’s services at the Children’s Hospital Oxford. It is a diverse and interesting ward to work on and never dull! The age range is our specialty but we take acute medical, acute surgical, orthopaedic, respiratory, spinal, ENT, psycho-social, trauma, plastics, neurosurgery, gastro, urology, endocrine, mental health, and neuro sciences patients regularly.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated part time Band Deputy Sister on Melanie’s Ward. This post will strengthen our established and cohesive senior nursing team; ensuring patients receive compassionate, competent, high quality care. This Nurse led ward has evolved specialist care of adolescents over many years and continues to have huge and exciting potential to develop as a service especially in areas such as transition. You need to be able to demonstrate experience of caring for older children and the issues that they experience plus a broad range of clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

Supported by the Ward Sister you will act as a role model and be responsible for deputising in their absence along with the other members of the Senior Nursing team. You will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with excellent clinical and communication skills, with an ability to lead and motivate others. You will also enjoy teaching and supporting junior staff as well as pre and post registration students.
