Role Overview
As a Fabricator Welder, you will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and welding of vehicle chassis, bodies, and components to precise specifications. You’ll work on a variety of projects, including HGV conversions, additional axle fitments, and the integration of specialist equipment for Rapiscan Systems. This is a hands-on role requiring technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities
1. Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
2. Fabricate, assemble, and weld steel and other metals using MIG, TIG, and other welding processes.
3. Carry out modifications, repairs, and custom builds on vehicle chassis and bodies.
4. Operate fabrication machinery, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently.
5. Inspect and test completed welds and assemblies to ensure compliance with quality standards.
6. Collaborate with engineering, workshop, and project teams to deliver bespoke solutions.
7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all health and safety protocols.
8. Participate in continuous improvement and training initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
9. Proven experience as a fabricator welder in an automotive, HGV, or industrial environment.
10. Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding, with the ability to work with various metals and thicknesses.
11. Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
12. Skilled in the use of fabrication equipment, measuring instruments, and workshop tools.
13. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
14. Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Desirable Qualifications
15. Relevant vocational or technical qualifications in welding/fabrication.
16. Apprenticeship or formal training in welding or fabrication.
17. Experience with HGV conversions, vehicle body building, or similar bespoke engineering work.
