Job Description

System Validation Engineer – Powerpack Engineering

Are you an experienced automotive engineer with a strong background in Electric Vehicle systems and a passion for system integration and validation.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of hybrid powertrain development, supporting the integration, validation, and optimisation of powerpack systems across vehicle and rig-based environments.

Role Overview

As a System Validation Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that systems meet performance, functionality, durability, and quality targets. You will be responsible for planning and executing validation activities, diagnosing system issues, and supporting root cause investigations across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.

Working within a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment, you will interface closely with propulsion controls teams, product owners, component engineers, test facilities, and suppliers to ensure robust system delivery from early development through to production readiness.

Key Responsibilities

* Support integration and system-level validation of systems, including ICE, electric machine, battery, power electronics, and associated controls.
* Develop, maintain, and execute test cases, and validation strategies aligned with programme milestones.
* Plan and conduct testing across vehicle, subsystem, and rig-based environments, ensuring test coverage for functional, performance, and fault scenarios.
* Perform fault diagnosis and root cause analysis using industry-standard diagnostic and calibration tools such as INCA, CANalyzer/CANoe, MATLAB, and data logging systems.
* Analyse test data to identify system issues, trends, and improvement opportunities, providing clear technical feedback and recommendations.
* Support propulsion system commissioning, software releases, and calibration verification activities.
* Collaborate with controls, hardware, and software teams to resolve integration issues and support design improvements.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of validation processes, test methods, and documentation.
* Ensure validation activities comply with internal standards, safety requirements, and programme timing constraints.
* Support issue tracking, reporting, and escalation through structured engineering processes.

Skills & Experience Required

* Proven experience in system validation or integration.
* Strong understanding of hybrid powertrain architectures, system interactions, and control strategies.
* Hands-on experience with vehicle and test rig environments, including fault insertion and diagnostic testing.
* Proficiency with INCA, CANalyzer/CANoe, MATLAB, and similar data analysis and diagnostic tools.
* Experience working with propulsion control systems, electrical and mechanical interfaces, and embedded software.
* Ability to perform structured root cause analysis and propose effective technical solutions.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple validation activities in parallel.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence working within cross-functional engineering teams.

Qualifications & Additional Requirements

* Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience).
* A full UK driving licence is essential
* Experience within OEM or Tier 1 automotive environments is highly desirable.
* A proactive, adaptable mindset with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.

Why Join?

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation hybrid powertrain technologies within a fast-paced, innovative automotive environment. You’ll have the chance to make a tangible impact on vehicle performance and reliability while working alongside some of the industry’s leading engineering experts.
