We are looking for a Full-Time Assistant Scientist (Hydrometry) on a Permanent basis in Dumfries.

We work professionally towards shared goals, knowing our work makes a lasting environmental impact. We seek energetic, innovative self-starters to support high-quality Hydrometry data delivery, aiding Scotland in climate adaptation through regulation and flood risk management.
Your role will include:
1. Undertaking hydrometric field measurements and maintaining infrastructure, mainly outdoors across Scotland's remote areas, measuring rainfall, river flows, and sea levels with specialized equipment. Visiting gauging stations for checks, calibrations, and flow gaugings. Performing repairs, fence and roof repairs, sensor installation, and outstation maintenance.
2. Processing and analyzing data by downloading from stations, uploading to archives, conducting routine analysis, deriving trends, and reporting. Collaborating with stakeholders to optimize data use and explaining data parameters and collection issues.
3. Supporting Hydrology and Flooding efforts by participating in fieldwork, data entry, routine reporting, GIS analysis, UAT, and surveys, and providing flexible support to other units.
4. Participating in flood warning operations as a Flood Warning Duty Officer, including occasional out-of-hours work.
