PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,200 - £65,000 + LW depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Would you like to put your stamp on Long Form Audio’s award-winning content? Our flagship department makes programmes for BBC radio and podcasts. We’re looking for a creative Senior Journalist with a strong background in news or current affairs journalism and long-form audio to work primarily on Radio 4’s Profile and AntiSocial. You will lead teams to produce weekly episodes and will need sharp editorial judgement and a keen eye on what connects with audiences.

As a Senior Journalist you’ll be working primarily on Profile and AntiSocial but with the possibility of working on other programmes and projects across the department. Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Making and leading teams to put together creative live and pre-recorded programmes (mainly Profile and AntiSocial) to a high standard, considering sound, editorial focus, impact and audience strategy
* Experience overseeing the work of others in a collaborative and supportive way
* Generating creative ideas, and helping others in the team to develop their ideas.
* Working with on‑air presenters to achieve the best possible content
* Complying content, including output editing live programmes, and supporting teams through editorial and legal issues
Essential Criteria
* Possess strong news judgement, strong decision‑making skills, and experience of operating calmly under pressure.
* Experience of output‑editing live or as‑live content in news or current affairs.
* Be a creative storyteller with a passion for, and experience of, producing original long‑form audio.
* Meticulous attention to detail and the confidence to take on difficult journalism.
* You will have the technical skills required to record interviews and edit audio.
* You will have a proven track‑record of working to develop a positive working culture across a team and overseeing other people’s work.
* You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the wider BBC objectives and thorough understanding of the BBC's Editorial Guidelines.
Desirable
* Experience of making digital video
* Experience growing and engaging new audiences on high impact programmes.
