Board Director, West Norfolk Housing Company
West Norfolk Housing Company is a Private Registered Provider of Social Housing wholly owned by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. The company acquires and holds affordable homes to help meet the needs of local people, and sub-contracts the management and maintenance of these to a third party.
The company is managed by a Board, comprising of four Independent Directors (one of whom has the role of Independent Chair) and four Council representatives, three of whom are Elected Members and one officer who is also the Chief Operating Officer. Board Directors work with the Chair of the Board to set and ensure compliance with the values, vision, mission and strategic objectives of the company to ensure its long term success. This includes approving a business plan and annual budget, overseeing a risk management framework and ensuring effective systems of internal control.
A vacancy has now arisen for an Independent Director and we are seeking applications for the role. Candidates should have previous experience of undertaking a professional role at a senior level in a relevant area such as property management/development, business/financial planning, housing, law, health or general business, supported by a relevant qualification. Candidates must also have an interest in the provision of affordable housing within the Borough. Some experience in a housing setting or of national and local housing policy would be desirable.
You will have a strong commitment to West Norfolk, be familiar with the area, and be willing to serve on a voluntary basis (although reasonable expenses will be met). The Board meets approximately 4 times per year and Directors are expected to commit the time to both prepare for and attend meetings. We are particularly keen to receive applications from underrepresented groups to ensure that the Board is reflective of the diverse communities living in West Norfolk.
