Overview
I'm supporting a major client operating within highly regulated, high‑hazard environments-covering oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical and heavy industrial sectors-who are looking to bring in an experienced Electrical Engineer to deliver full MV/LV design engineering.
This role focuses on specifications, calculations and the development of construction-ready electrical work packs, ensuring safe, compliant and technically robust engineering outputs for hazardous and safety‑critical operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver MV/LV electrical design for plant and process facilities within a regulated industrial environment
* Produce detailed electrical equipment specifications (switchgear, UPS, MCCs, panels, hazardous area‑rated equipment, etc.)
* Develop and refine scopes of work for electrical installation packages
* Generate cable specifications, support cable schedules and confirm routing in line with site constraints and hazardous area classification
* Confirm and validate switchgear ratings, protection settings, fault level coordination and UPS interfaces
* Review, verify and ratify vendor drawings, design documentation and technical submissions
* Produce comprehensive electrical work packs including:
* Cable sizing and protection calculations
* Termination sheets
* Small panel updates
* UPS cabling and switchgear connection details
* Ensure all engineering work aligns with relevant industry standards (BS/IEC), electrical legislation, and COMAH / hazardous area compliance
* Provide support to electrical inspectors, construction supervisors and site commissioning teams
* Work closely with multidiscipline teams to ensure a safe and fit‑for‑purpose design
* Strong background as an Electrical Engineer in highly regulated sectors:
* Petrochemical / chemical plants
* Heavy industrial / COMAH‑regulated facilities
* Proven experience producing full electrical designs
* Technical capability in MV/LV distribution systems, switchgear, UPS, cable sizing and protection
* Demonstrable experience producing:
* Equipment specifications
* Cable specifications
* Installation work packs
* Scopes of work
* Strong understanding of hazardous area requirements (ATEX/DSEAR advantageous)
* Confident reviewing and ratifying vendor submissions and engineering drawings
* Familiar with high‑hazard project safety processes, change control and quality assurance
* Previous involvement in projects within live operating plants
* Working knowledge of construction, commissioning and inspection processes in regulated industries
* Familiarity with functional safety principles (e.g., SIL / IEC 61511)
* Significant responsibility and autonomy within a highly competent engineering team
