Senior Occupational Therapist

There is currently an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the neurological occupational therapy team. The role will be based on the acute neurosurgical and neurology wards, providing support to neurosurgical HDU and may be required to provide occupational therapy input to the neurorehabilitation ward at The James Cook University Hospital. Excellent communication and organisational skills, enthusiasm, commitment and ability to negotiate across a wide range of agencies are also vital in this post.
Experience of working with neurological conditions is essential. The team is friendly and supportive and there will be the opportunity to develop more advanced clinical, leadership and service development skills, as our staff are encouraged and supported in their continual professional development and through regular clinical supervision.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work on the acute neurosurgical ward, including neurosurgical HDU and NASU (Neurology and Stroke unit) working in the neurology service. The post may be required to provide occupational therapy input to the neurorehabilitation ward. h
You will work within a large multidisciplinary team offering specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and rehabilitation, providing advice where needed to other professionals regarding the management of neurological conditions.
You will need to be able to work as part of a team and on your own, frequently using your own initiative. The role will require being involved with clients with a range of multiple medical, social and emotional problems, as well as home visits, discharge planning, rehabilitation and education. The ability to travel independently is an essential part of this post.
The neurology team currently provides a 5 day service based at The James Cook University Hospital.

Person Specification
Qualification
* To hold a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* To be registered as an Occupational Therapist and fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* To be committed to continuing professional development
* Leadership training
Knowledge
* Knowledge of relevant national guidelines and standards
* Evidence working in the NHS
* Ability to work both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a team
* Prioritisation of complex workload/ time management
* Basic IT skills
* Evidence of supervision of students or therapy assistants
* Evidence of audit and participation in service development
Experience
* Demonstrate experience managing patients with neurological conditions
