The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a Locum Consultant in Dermatology on a 24-month fixed-term contract.
This role offers the opportunity to manage a wide range of dermatology conditions, including clinics for Systemic Diseases, Routine and Cancerous Lesions, Paediatrics, and Skin Surgery. The clinical workload also includes inpatient referrals and reviews, providing advice and guidance to primary care, and participating in administrative virtual clinics. The role involves attendance at Local MDT and joint plastics clinics, along with support for RSM education sessions on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
The department treats the full spectrum of dermatology conditions, with clinics covering general skin issues, systemic diseases (such as psoriasis), pigmented lesions, fast-track cancer clinics, and paediatric dermatology. There is a monthly joint clinic with plastic surgeons. The department hosts a weekly skin cancer MDT and a bimonthly specialist MDT with colleagues in Oxford. The postholder will also be encouraged to develop local research and audit initiatives.
The department is supported by a team of Dermatology Specialist Nurses, Skin Cancer Specialist Nurses, and a nurse-led phototherapy service (UVA, UVB & PDT), along with patch testing and comprehensive radiology facilities including CT and MRI.
The dermatology outpatient clinics operate in a dedicated area of the Wren unit on the third floor of the hospital, matching high outpatient demand. The service collaborates closely with Plastic Surgery colleagues within the hospital, who are employed by Oxford University Hospital, our tertiary referral centre.
