Role context

The Children and Families Department takes a strengths-based approach to working with each other, children, young people and families, and our partner agencies. We call this 'Our Nottinghamshire Approach'. Watch the two minute animation to learn more. Be there for young people when they need you most- and we will be there for you.

About the role

Join Clayfields House as a Music Instructor and use your creativity, passion, and skills to help transform the lives of young people. This is more than a teaching role — it’s an opportunity to use music and creativity to help young people rebuild confidence, develop skills, and achieve positive change. At Clayfields House, we work with young people who may be vulnerable, at risk, or placed in secure accommodation due to offending behaviour. Every day brings challenge, purpose, and the chance to make a genuine difference. As Music Instructor, you will deliver engaging and adaptable music education tailored to learners with complex needs. You’ll combine teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development to inspire students through music technology and performance.

You Will

* Deliver music education and training from Foundation to Level 2
* Lead and develop aspects of the music curriculum
* Teach music technology and production, including performing arts elements
* Plan engaging, differentiated lessons for small groups (typically up to 4 learners)
* Support individual education and career plans
* Assess learner progress and support accreditation outcomes
* Act as a pastoral tutor, supporting young people’s wider development
* Work collaboratively with education staff, support services, and external agencies
* Create a positive learning environment using effective behaviour management strategies

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a creative, resilient, and compassionate professional who believes in the power of education and music to transform lives.

You Will Have

* Experience teaching music within an educational setting
* Strong communication skills with young people
* Ability to motivate learners with challenging or complex needs
* Experience adapting teaching for varied abilities and learning styles
* Confidence working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Excellent organisation and record-keeping skills
* Emotional resilience and flexibility in a dynamic environment
* Experience with SEN learners (e.g., ADHD, attachment needs, learning difficulties)
* Experience working in specialist or alternative education settings
* NVQ or qualification in Music Technology (desirable)

Why Join Clayfields House?

* Be part of a dynamic and supportive education team
* Shape a creative curriculum that genuinely changes futures
* Access ongoing professional development opportunities
* Generous annual leave entitlement above statutory requirements
* Participation in the local government pension scheme with a 6.5% employer contribution

Clayfields House is located in Stapleford, Nottingham, just a few miles from the M1, making it easily accessible from across Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Evette Walker on 0115 917 0010.

If you’re passionate about music, education, and transforming lives, we’d love to hear from you.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
