Assistant Genetic Technologist – North West Genomic Laboratory Hub
We are seeking an Assistant Genetic Technologist to work in the Genomic Diagnostics Laboratory, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The role is part of a national genomic medicine service and involves delivering diagnostic genomic services to a large population.
Responsibilities
* Work in the laboratory on one of the technical teams (Pre‑analytical, Cell Culture & Karyotyping, Molecular Cytogenetics, Fragment or Sequencing/NGS) under the supervision of a Senior Genetic Technologist.
* Perform a range of protocol‑driven tasks, ensuring constant attention to detail and good organisational and multi‑tasking skills.
* Carry out repetitive tasks that require specific unbroken time periods, good concentration and manual dexterity.
* Work under supervision as part of a flexible working rota and meet professional reporting time guidelines, including tight deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills
* Hold A‑levels (or equivalent) in relevant subject areas, or demonstrate equivalent literacy and numeracy skills.
* Experience in a genetics or diagnostic laboratory environment is desirable.
* Computer literacy is required.
* Strong communication skills, teamwork, ability to remain calm under pressure, take initiative and prioritise workload.
* Willingness to be fully trained and appraised yearly to develop knowledge and skills.
