Role Overview
As a Sterilisation & Decontamination Specialist, you will serve as the infection control and sterilisation expert supporting BSSI's healthcare provider network. Your role focuses on managing instrument lifecycles with confidence and supporting audit readiness through evidence-based decontamination practice.
Working directly with clinical teams, infection control professionals, and procurement decision-makers, you will provide specialist guidance on instrument care, sterilisation compatibility, and contamination control, strengthening healthcare provider confidence in both product reliability and decontamination workflows.
This role requires presence in the Wolverhampton office and regular clinical site visits to healthcare providers across your assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
* Support healthcare providers in developing and validating sterilisation workflows for BSSI's products
* Advise on instrument care, cleaning protocols, sterilisation compatibility, and lifecycle handling to ensure clinical safety and product longevity
* Conduct on-site assessments of decontamination facilities, providing recommendations for compliance improvement and best practice alignment
* Deliver training to clinical and decontamination staff on proper instrument handling, sterilisation procedures, and infection control protocols
* Support healthcare facility audits and compliance assessments, providing technical evidence and expert testimony
* Collaborate with healthcare provider infection control teams to gather feedback on product decontamination performance and develop improvement recommendations
* Liaise with manufacturing operations regarding sterilisation compatibility feedback and product design considerations
* Maintain detailed records of facility assessments, training delivered, and compliance outcomes.
Required Qualifications & Skills
* Demonstrable experience in infection control, sterilisation, or decontamination within healthcare settings (hospitals, dental practices, or clinical environments)
* Strong understanding of sterilisation methods (autoclaving, chemical sterilisation) and decontamination workflows
* Knowledge of ISO standards related to sterilisation and medical device safety
* Proven ability to assess healthcare facility decontamination capability and identify compliance gapsStrong communication skills with the ability to advise clinical teams and infection control professionals
* Understanding of healthcare audit processes and compliance documentation requirements
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the assigned territory for facility visits.
Preferred Qualifications
* Formal qualification in infection control, microbiology, or healthcare science
* CICP (Certified in Infection Control and Prevention) or equivalent professional credential
* Background in sterilisation technology, decontamination engineering, or healthcare supply chain management
* Knowledge of ISO 13485
* Experience with healthcare facility accreditation processes (CQC, private healthcare accreditation)
* Advanced understanding of dental instrument decontamination and dental practice compliance requirements
* Experience with risk assessment methodologies and healthcare safety protocols

* Number of healthcare facilities supported with sterilisation and decontamination assessments
* Compliance audits supported, and zero critical findings were identified related to the provided recommendations
* Training sessions delivered to healthcare facility staff and participant satisfaction ratings
* Decontamination facility assessments completed and improvement recommendations implemented
* Healthcare provider satisfaction ratings regarding sterilisation guidance and compliance support
* Product-specific decontamination feedback collected and quality improvement recommendations generated
* Sterilisation validation records completed, and healthcare facility confidence in product lifecycle assurance
* In-person facility visits completed and relationship continuity with infection control teams.
