Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
* Influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future as part of our Technical Authority.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems, control systems and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver, and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (out‑of‑hours or normal working hours).
Qualifications & Experience
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Experience testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation (FMEA, reliability systems).
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role; we will allocate a base location near to your home. Some travel and overnights may be required. You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. Appropriate training will be given.
To be considered you must hold a UK driving licence. You must have current membership of a recognised engineering institution and be registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or provide evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
