Role Summary (Purpose)
As a key member of the Production team, the Shift Process Operator is responsible for helping deliver the safety, production and financial targets for the Barnstone packing operation.
Reporting to the Shift Co‑ordinator, the role holder is accountable for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of allocated plant areas, ensuring optimum performance and throughput. The role involves operating plant equipment, including packing lines, blending systems and forklift trucks, alongside supporting maintenance and continuous improvement activities.
The role requires flexibility to undertake additional duties such as first‑line maintenance, cleaning and manual handling, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with Tarmac / CRH standards, policies and safe systems of work.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure all work is carried out in line with safe working procedures, risk assessments and STOP processes.
Promote and demonstrate strong Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
Ensure correct use of PPE at all times.
Safely operate mobile and fixed plant within busy and congested areas.
Respond to emergencies, including plant isolation (lock‑out), first‑level emergency response and first aid where trained.
Report and record accidents, unsafe conditions and environmental incidents and take corrective action.
Operations & Production
Operate all packing plant equipment to maximise throughput and meet production targets.
Carry out daily production reporting and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
Load and unload HGVs and manage material movements to stock.
Conduct basic on‑line testing to verify mix design.
Ensure raw materials and additives are available in the correct locations and quantities.
Accurately measure and report stock levels.
Communicate any plant issues, stoppages or throughput limitations to Maintenance before shift end.
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
Identify and carry out minor maintenance tasks and adjustments.
Ensure machinery lubrication is maintained in line with manufacturer specifications.
Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and contribute to improvement actions.
Work collaboratively with the wider team to drive continuous improvement.
Review plant and process conditions in line with job plans.
Housekeeping & Compliance
Maintain high housekeeping standards across the plant and work areas.
Identify and report poor housekeeping practices.
Ensure all operational and compliance documentation is completed accurately and on time.
Work in full compliance with company procedures, policies and regulatory requirements.

The Shift Process Operator plays a key role in ensuring production plans are delivered safely and efficiently, contributing to overall site performance and customer demand.

Safe operation of packing lines (Adams and Benjamin)
Cement milling and micro‑cement production
Sand dryer operations
Powder blending and feed delivery systems
Big bag (IBC) filling operations
Pallet storage and loading
Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge
Experience
Essential: Experience in a busy manufacturing or production environment
Essential: Experience operating fast‑moving plant and fault finding
Desirable: Experience with robotic production lines
Beneficial: Electrical or mechanical knowledge within heavy industry
Skills & Knowledge
Strong Health, Safety and Environmental awareness
Good IT skills
Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting ability
Mechanical understanding of industrial plant
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with clear reporting ability
Excellent timekeeping and reliability
