The Bolton News is seeking a top-class reporter passionate about digital storytelling, hardworking, full of ideas, and innovative in presenting stories across platforms.
We want an ambitious, digitally skilled, versatile journalist to cover breaking news and write engaging stories from this lively patch.
The right candidate will also report for other regional titles, including the Lancashire Telegraph and the Bury Times.
A key part of the role involves immersing yourself in social media, developing relationships, and understanding what matters to the local community.
Our aim is to tell stories our audiences care about—covering crime, local politics, human interest pieces, and community causes.
The position is based at our regional newsroom in Bolton, with flexibility for home working and some travel on patch.
Ideally, you will be a fully qualified reporter with a gold-standard NCTJ qualification and 100wpm typing speed.
You will also need to be:
* Brimming with ideas for digital storytelling
* Knowledgeable about digital reader preferences
* Skilled at developing contacts for better coverage
* Driven by digital analytics to improve reporting
* A self-starter with excellent time management
* Passionate about social media
* Well-versed in relevant media law
* Energetic and versatile in writing style, with attention to detail
* Capable of writing quickly under pressure
* Able to produce a range of content, including live blogs, listicles, long reads, and features
* Knowledgeable of SEO and its importance in digital journalism
* Collaborative, open to team ideas and suggestions
A driving license and access to a car are preferred. The role involves rota shifts, including early, late, and weekend work.
