Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of acoustic research, the Lead Transducer Engineer will support the research and development of acoustic transducers and related technologies. This role is an opportunity to contribute to the development of a wide range of audio products, from loudspeakers to headphones and automotive systems.
The role responsibilities are centered around the following activities:
* management and coordination of transducer development activities,
* directly contribute to specific engineering projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Interfacing with the Director of acoustic research, the Lead Transducer Engineer will be directly responsible for the following duties:
* Line Management of a small team of transducer engineers
* Plan, delegate and monitor engineering tasks
* Co-ordinate training & process improvements
* Oversee the maintenance and improvements of our measurement capabilities and facilities
* Interfacing with the product development engineers, the Lead Transducer Engineer will be directly responsible for the following technical duties:
* Dimensioning and Finite element simulation of transducer components or assemblies (electromagnetic, mechanical & acoustical)
* Measurements of transducer & loudspeaker assemblies
* Document all the above results, including the creation of working procedures and design guidelines
* Perform any other technical duties as assigned
Requirements:
Essential:
* Educated to degree level or equivalent in acoustics, physics or electronic engineering.
* Understanding of underlining physical principles of electrodynamic transducers including lumped element modelling, non-linear distortion and rub & buzz root causes
* Experience of leading engineering and/or cross-functional teams
* Ability to lead & drive projects to completion
* Able to create and present test reports in a logical and accurate manner
* Familiar with COMSOL finite element package (or equivalent)
* Working knowledge of the Klippel R&D system
* Understanding of the basic principle of sound radiation and room acoustics
* Excellent communication skills
* 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar role
Desirable:
* Working knowledge of Klippel QC system
* Working knowledge of a 3D design package like Solidworks, NX, Catia
* Familiarity with other audio and electronics testing equipment: Audio Precision, MLSSA, SoundCheck, Clio
* Familiar with DFMA, DFMEA, FMEA
