Overview A leading specialist in the design, fabrication, and maintenance of bulk fuel storage systems is seeking an experienced Fuel Pump & Tank Engineer. The organisation provides bespoke fuel storage and transfer solutions across defence (MOD), aviation, logistics, distribution, and commercial sectors. Operations include installation, maintenance, refurbishment, de-commissioning and environmental compliance of above- and below-ground fuel storage systems. This role focuses on servicing pumps, gauges, commercial fuel tanks and associated infrastructure. Role Purpose To deliver first-class service, maintenance, repair and installation of fuel transfer systems, pumps, gauges and commercial bulk fuel storage tanks across MOD, aviation and commercial sites. The role supports safe operations, regulatory compliance, and optimal performance of fuel storage assets. Key Responsibilities * Carry out scheduled and reactive maintenance, inspection and servicing of fuel pumping systems, flow meters, level gauges (automatic tank gauges, ullage indicators etc), and fuel monitoring instrumentation. * Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair faults on fuel pumps (electrical/mechanical), fuel lines, pipework, valves, filtration units and instrumentation. * Install new pumps, gauges and ancillary equipment as required when tanks or systems are upgraded or expanded. * Assist with installation of new bulk fuel storage systems (above-ground and below-ground), including integration of pipework, electrical systems and control instrumentation. * Conduct environmental site audits, visual inspections and report on compliance risks in line with oil storage and water environment regulations. * Maintain accurate service reports, inspection checklists, compliance certificates, calibration records and client documentation. * Liaise directly with clients, site managers, contractors and internal team members to ensure clarity of work scope, safe working practices and high client satisfaction. * Work in accordance with site safety procedures, health, safety and environmental regulations (including fuel handling, bunding, spill prevention, and electrical safety). * Provide on-site guidance to junior engineers or technicians and contribute to continuous improvement of service processes. * Travel to sites nationally (and occasionally internationally) to service MOD, aviation and commercial fuel storage assets. Skills, Experience & Qualifications Essential: * Proven experience in maintenance, servicing or installation of fuel systems, pumps, gauges or instrumentation in a commercial/industrial environment. * Strong mechanical aptitude, with ability to work on fluid systems, pipework, valves, filtration units, pump assemblies and instrumentation. * Good electrical knowledge – able to work safely on/with electrically driven pumps, instrumentation, level sensors and control systems. * Experience working on high-compliance sites such as defence or aviation. * Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills. * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. * Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage time effectively across multiple sites. * Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required. * Full UK driving licence. Desirable: * Previous experience working with above-ground or below-ground fuel storage tanks and associated infrastructure (including bunding, filling stations, monitoring systems). * Knowledge of fuel industry regulations and environmental compliance standards. * Electrical or instrumentation qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3). * CSCS card, IPAF or other relevant site access certifications. * Prior experience working on MOD or aviation sites.
