Job Summary
To manage a well established ECT service, including providing senior clinical support and guidance to the ECT team and wider teams. You will also provide direct clinical care as the ECT Manager in line with ECTAS Standards, as well as identifying and taking the lead in developing clinical audit and research activity and ensuring effective processes for clinical compliance checks are embedded within the clinical area.
Main Duties
* Ensure that the SLA is delivered and reviewed in line with ECTAS Standards.
* Implement Trust policies, procedures and legislative directives relevant to the ECT Department.
* Support the development of the skills and knowledge of the team to maintain competence, including skills analysis to inform training plans.
* Use clinical and resource management information analytically to inform decisions that meet service user, team and organisational objectives.
* Take the lead in implementing or supporting clinical and non-clinical risk management systems.
* Conduct regular team meetings and gather patient/carer feedback.
* Address poor and unsafe practice promptly and appropriately.
* Uphold and implement HR policy and procedure to ensure safety, effectiveness and high standards of care.
* Support the Trust vision and strategic implementation within your area of responsibility, ensuring clear communication within teams.
* Manage roster planning robustly and effectively.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical and Quality Assurance
Provide senior clinical support and guidance to the ECT team and wider team. Provide direct clinical care as ECT service Manager in line with ECTAS Standards. Lead on developing clinical audit and research activity, ensuring effective processes for clinical compliance checks are embedded within the clinical area. Lead on delivering the clinical quality agenda as defined by the Trust. Imbed best practice through feedback from compliments, complaints and concerns. Promote a multidisciplinary approach in incident analysis, ensuring that clinical meetings are appropriately multi‑disciplinary, and sharing wider learning as appropriate. Be aware of national policy guidance related to emerging and established best practice in delivering an evidence‑based service.
Professional Accountability
Ensure care is delivered in a person‑centred manner, incorporating health and social care pathways. Include people in care, carers and significant others in planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of care. Support the interests of people in care, using professional knowledge and judgement to account for decisions and clinical leadership for others.
Leadership
Promote good practice, prevent poor practice and intervene proactively against unacceptable practice. Ensure robust communication systems (IT, verbal, inter‑personal, written) support high quality care. Support change management processes. Proactively manage conflict with a multidisciplinary team, prioritising the needs of people in care. Facilitate strategic thinking skills, cultivating a reflective practice environment and learning from incidents.
Practice / Professional Development
Participate in regular appraisal and identify development needs. Ensure regular clinical and managerial supervision. Optimize opportunities to develop clinical and professional practice, maintaining a professional portfolio for revalidation. Develop and maintain effective networks locally and nationally to share best practice.

Specialty Specific Requirements
Raise the profile of acute mental health care speciality and ensure a clear understanding of the acute care pathway, particularly the use of ECT. Demonstrate a clear awareness of the ECT care pathway and ensure adherence and dissemination of best practice. Complete training relevant to the ECT role per ECTAS Standards. Implement assessment and formulation skills to inform person‑centred care plans. Demonstrate therapeutic intervention and engagement skills. Carry out specialist assessments in line with professional frameworks. Collaborate with Lead Consultant Psychiatrist and Lead Anaesthetist to ensure safe administration of anaesthetic and ECT treatment. Ensure staff receive training in legal frameworks such as MHA and Mental Capacity Act / Consent. Complete ECTAS ECT Foundation course within a year and maintain competencies per ECTAS Standards.
Person Specification
* Essential Qualifications – Must have NMC registration.
* Desirable Qualifications – Trained in ILS.
* Essential Experience – Experience of working with acute mental health settings.
* Desirable Experience – Strong knowledge of ECT, associated policies and guidance including national guidance. Highly developed clinical reasoning skills and ability to conduct risk assessments.
