Job Description
The role of the SHE Apprentice is to assist the Contract SHE functions to enable the contract to implement the Group SHE Management System. To gain experience, knowledge and develop relationships with stakeholders, whilst maintaining an independent and objective view of SHE Performance on the Contract.
About The Project
This role supports Costain for the Reactor Height Reduction Project at Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) Trawsfynydd Site, based in North Wales. The three and a half year project will involve the partial demolition of each RB’s, reducing the overall height and reducing the current asset management liability. In addition, an extensive package of civil new build and remedial works will be delivered prolonging the durability of the retained structures.
A first of its kind for the Nuclear Sector; this challenging and exciting project which includes a wide supply chain will significantly reduce the uncertainty associated with the current condition of the reactor buildings and lessen the visual impact caused by the Reactor Buildings on the Snowdonia National Park.
Responsibilities
* Research safety, Health and Environmental issues and best practices as directed by the SHE Manager or delegate
* Provide support to the Bid Manager team with regards to marketing, tenders and pre-qualification information
* Assist with the preparation of SHE risk assessments and method statements
* Assist with the monitoring, analysis of and reporting of SHE performance as directed
* Assist with the investigating of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents as directed
* Assist in the preparation and implementation of SHE training/briefings
* Actively promote the company ‘BE SAFE, BE HEALTHY and BE GREEN’ messages in addition to the implementation of best practice principles across the business and to include stakeholders such as the supply chain
* Promote best practice, capture best practice and ensure it is fed back into the business
* Set standards and lead by example in the management of SHE
* Liaise with the other members of the SHE Team and wider organisation with regards to SHE
* Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relation to the SHE Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership
* Obtain competency cards inline with the company competency
Qualifications
* A passionate individual looking to undertake an apprenticeship with an award-winning employer
* Equivalent of 5 GCSE's, grades A*-C or 9-4, including Science, English and Maths (ideally a grade B or above)
* Student membership of IOSH/IEMA (desirable)
* An organised individual that can work to deadlines
* Has creativity with a keen interest in the latest technology
* Enjoys challenges and problem solving in their day-to-day work
* Communicating clearly, both written and verbally
* Good attention to detail with the aim to get it right the first time
* Can work independently as well as part of a team
* Numerate
