Named Nurse Safeguarding Children

The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children is an integral member of the Integrated Safeguarding Team who provide a Trustwide safeguarding service across our 3 hospital sites.
The team is responsible for ensuring that Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust meets both its legal and statutory safeguarding duties.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with expertknowledge and experience in relation to safeguarding children and young people.
You will workclosely with the Head of Safeguarding,Named Doctor, other members of the Integrated Safeguarding Team and our wider safeguarding system partners, to ensure we support our staff in the delivery of a safe, and robust safeguarding service with the aim of protecting those most at risk of abuse / serious harm.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role are:
To be a visible presence with the skills and knowledge to promote and support children and young peoples safeguarding across the organisation
In conjunction with other members of the Integrated Safeguarding Team and Named Doctor embed the think family and safeguarding is everyones business ethos across all safeguarding activity /workstreams
Work in conjunction with other stakeholders (internally and externally) to provide a robust safeguarding service across the health and social care system / partnership
To provide, deliver and review mandatory safeguarding children and young people training packages
To deliver safeguarding supervision in accordance with Trust Policy & Procedure
To contribute to / share learning in order to change practice and drive continuous improvement in safeguarding activity
To practice in accordance with multiagency child safeguarding procedures (local, regional, national)

Job Purpose:
TheNamed Nurse for Safeguarding Children will work closely with the Head ofSafeguarding and Integrated Safeguarding Team members to:
Ensurethat the Trust meets its statutory obligation to safeguard and promote thewelfare of all children and young people and vulnerable pregnant women whoaccess services from any hospital site within the Trust.
Actas an invaluable resource, providing a high level of expertise, support andguidance to the Trust and provide professional leadership for both corporateand operational staff, trainees and volunteers in all matters pertaining toSafeguarding Children.
Ensurethat staff are supported and empowered in making decisions related toSafeguarding Children to facilitate in promoting the welfare of children, youngpeople and families as paramount. This will include the provision ofsafeguarding supervision.
Activelyparticipate in the development, implementation and provision of SafeguardingChildren Training for all trust staff.
Activelyparticipate and lead on quality assurance processes, audits and report writingin accordance with the Safeguarding Children agenda.
Assistthe Head of Safeguarding in all aspects of the multi-agency SafeguardingChildren Agenda, as deemed appropriate. This may include deputising withinforums and meetings as deemed appropriate.
Toparticipate within line management responsibilities for junior members of staffwithin the Integrated Safeguarding Team as deemed appropriate, which may include theprovision of 1:1 meetings.
Activelysupport safeguarding investigations and demonstrate excellent interagencyworking. As the Named Nurse you may represent the Trust at interagencymeetings, developing working partnerships at a senior level with partnerorganisations.
Key Duties:
The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children leads onand ensures effective Safeguarding Children practice for the organisation asstipulated in primary legislation and underpinned in Government strategy andnational, regional and local guidance, procedures and standards. Nurses in thisrole will:
Develop, implement and review safeguarding practiceacross the organisation and its networks.
Provide specialist professional safeguardingchildren advice and effective supervision for a range of professionals andstaff.
Deliver, develop, implement and evaluatesafeguarding children training for all staff groups from induction tospecialist courses.
Undertake the co-ordination and management ofInternal Management Reviews that contribute to the Safeguarding Children Partnership Child Safeguarding Practice Review process
Facilitate safe and effective multi-professionalcommunication and information sharing appropriately across a range of settingsand agencies.
Communicate highly complex, sensitive and emotiveinformation within the health service and multi-agency contexts, pertainingto suspected or actual risks tovulnerable children, decisions and action plans to protect children andfamilies
Foster effective working relationships in order topromote inter-disciplinary and multi-agency collaboration and be an activemember of multi-agency safeguarding groups.
Facilitation oflearning:
Toassist with the development, delivery and evaluation of evidence basedSafeguarding Children training across the Trust.
Participatein the dissemination of any learning and improvement identified byWorcestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership / Adults Board, or the Trust, from any case reviews that are undertaken either locally and nationally.
ClinicalResponsibilities:
Providea visible presence in clinical areas acting as a sound resource for clinicalstaff, supporting them in dealing with safeguarding referrals and cases whicharises in clinical practice.
Providespecialist advice to clinicians in relation to safeguarding issues, includingsafeguarding referrals, court statement processes and other legal issues andthe child protection and child looked after processes.
Undertakea review of assessments, in conjunction with other practitioners whereappropriate, of women and children referred in relation to safeguarding issuesand to implement appropriate monitoring mechanisms to ensure continued safety.This will include quality assurance of referral processes, audit proposals andplans and quarterly reports.
Escalatesafeguardings children cases where deemed appropriate whilst maintaining staffempowerment.
Provideexpert advice and support to patients and their families in relation tosafeguarding issues.
Beactively appraised to in-patient care matters, liaising with ward staff toensure high quality care for patients whereby safeguarding children remainscentral to this.
Liaisewith ward staff to ensure appropriate and timely discharge/follow-uparrangements in place for patients about whom there are safeguarding concerns
Ensurethat appropriate clinical staff represent and attend relevant safeguardingmeetings called in relation to children, young people and families asappropriate.
Participatein relevant meetings including the Integrated Safeguarding Committee.
Beaware of and comply with trust policies, pathways and guidelines pertaining toSafeguarding and ensure all remain up to date and based on best availableevidence and legislation. Participate and lead on the contribution to review ofthese documents.
Receiveregular professional safeguarding supervision from an appropriate supervisor.
Workwithin the guidelines laid down by the General Medical Council, Nursing andMidwifery Council. Foster an empowering attitude to colleagues.
Maintaincontinuing professional development and actively demonstrate a willingnessto commit to this.
Governance:
Contributeto audit and monitoring of standards relevant to safeguarding children andpregnant vulnerable women.
Assistin the Serious Case Review / Significant Incident process, specifically in thewriting of reports and implementation of the findings and recommendations.
Investigateand respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significantevents.
Contributeto Trust reports pertaining to Safeguarding.
Contributetowards the development of Safeguarding Children policies and guidance.
Inputdata to data management systems as appropriate.
Contributeto multi-agency audit processes.
Carryout and assist in formulating the Safeguarding Children Audit programme as anongoing activity.
Supportthe collection and collation of data for the Quality and Performance Frameworkand assist in the analysis of themes and trends
Leadership/ Management:
Activelyparticipate in the work pertaining to the Worcestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership sub groups, other working groups and committees as appropriate.
Aspart of a team, work collaboratively within the Trust and across agencies, toform partnerships and working arrangements that facilitate the safeguarding ofchildren and vulnerable women.
Adviseand support staff in the management of sensitive and complex child protectionmatters as appropriate.
Attendchild protection strategy meetings, as requested by the Head of Safeguarding asa support to staff or as a representative of the Trust where appropriate.Furthermore, supporting multi-agency safeguarding process /procedures.
Demonstrateability to resolve issues relating to competence, or conflict personally,within the team, externally within health or in partner agencies.
Deputisefor the Head of Safeguarding as deemed appropriate.

Person Specification
DBS Checks
* A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be carried out where the position is eligible for a Disclosure and Barring Service Check, in accordance with the 2012 Protection of Freedom Act and the guidance issued by the DBS.
* All posts working with children or vulnerable adults are required to have an Enhanced DBS checked, including checking against DBS / ISA Vetting and Barring lists.
Experience
* Previous relevant post registration experience within specialism including community.
* Senior post holder in current or previous job.
* Experience of interagency working in relation to Safeguarding Children.
* Clinical audit, quality assurance and standard setting.
* Service development and or change management.
* Experienced in the delivery of Safeguarding Supervision.
Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in Nursing - Adult or Childrens.
* Specialist Practitioner Qualification, School Nurse or Health Visitor or equivalent.

* Evidence of continued professional development and its application with particular pertinence to Safeguarding courses.
* Completed or working towards a masters level qualification.
