Laboratory Technician (Machinist)
Redditch, Worcestershire
£26,000 – £32,000 per annum (DOE)
4-day week | Monday to Thursday | 06:00 – 16:00
About the Role
We are currently looking for a Laboratory Technician (Machinist) to join our precision-focused laboratory team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys working in a technically driven, high-standard environment.
You’ll be responsible for machining metal test specimens to exact specifications using CNC milling machines, manual lathes, band saws, and other cutting tools, supporting mechanical, metallurgical, and chemical testing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Operate CNC milling machines, manual lathes, and band saws to manufacture test pieces
Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure dimensional and surface finish accuracy
Perform precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
Keep detailed records of machining parameters and job logs
Maintain cleanliness and safety within the lab-based machine shop
Collaborate with lab technicians and engineers on testing projects
Support data entry, stock control, and other ad hoc lab tasks as needed
Meet deadlines independently, while following strict procedures
What We’re Looking For
Experience in machining – CNC, milling, and turning
Strong understanding of technical drawings and machining tolerances
High attention to detail and a commitment to quality work
Familiarity with general workshop tools and safety practices
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
Willingness to work overtime when required (pre-agreed weekly)
Experience working in a laboratory or testing environment
Basic knowledge of LIMS or data entry systems
Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices
