Role Overview
Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Plymouth
Salary: Up to £45,000 (Depending on Experience)
Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for innovation and solving complex problems? We’re working with a forward-thinking organisation who are looking to expand their expert design team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team of 30 engineers, contributing to cutting-edge product development from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities
 * Design new products in collaboration with engineers across multiple disciplines.
 * Develop concept designs based on customer requirements.
 * Design components using a wide range of manufacturing processes, including:
 * Plastic Injection Moulding
 * CNC Machining (plastics & metals)
 * Sheet Metal Fabrication
 * Vacuum Forming
 * Aluminium & Plastic Extrusions
 * Build and evaluate prototypes to ensure functional performance.
 * Engage with suppliers to optimise designs for manufacture and cost-effectiveness.
 * Produce and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), product costings, and engineering documentation.
 * Draft technical drawings and author engineering change notes for product release.
 * Research and integrate new materials, technologies, and processes to solve design challenges.
What We’re Looking For
 * Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally in a product development environment.
 * Strong CAD skills and familiarity with prototyping and testing methodologies.
 * A critical eye and the ability to challenge and refine your own designs.
 * Excellent communication skills – written and verbal – with the ability to work cross-functionally.
 * Proactive, inquisitive, and self-motivated – someone who thrives in a collaborative environment.
