We are seeking an enthusiastic, student-focused individual passionate about guiding learners towards their future goals. The ideal candidate will be resilient, able to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and committed to maintaining a student-centered provision.
You will play a vital role in helping students make informed decisions about their next steps, including university, apprenticeships, employment, or further training. Responsibilities include delivering engaging group sessions on topics like CV writing and the UCAS process, as well as providing one-to-one careers guidance, ensuring access to high-quality, impartial support tailored to individual needs.
The successful candidate should hold, be working towards, or be willing to work towards a recognised qualification in careers guidance (e.g., Level 3 or 4 in Careers Guidance and Development or equivalent). Experience working with young people in an educational setting and knowledge of careers education frameworks such as the Gatsby Benchmarks or Matrix Standard is highly advantageous.
You will be supported by a high-performing team and work closely with colleagues across curriculum areas, as well as with employers, universities, and community partners to enhance careers education. Main Purpose of Job
To inspire and equip learners with the knowledge and skills to give them a competitive edge, enabling progression into meaningful employment or further study. Collaborate with WHCG and stakeholders to meet national, regional, and local business needs through high-quality, impartial CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance).
Provide access to CEIAG through various opportunities and modes, including partnerships with universities, employers, and voluntary sectors. The role is primarily based between Watford and Hemel Hempstead campuses, with occasional days at the Luton campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Deliver group sessions on CV writing, interview skills, UCAS process, and awareness of alternative routes like apprenticeships; prepare learners for the world of work and conduct one-to-one careers advice sessions.
2. Ensure individuals understand available career routes and how to access relevant information.
3. Maintain accurate records and students' individual action plans on site systems.
4. Support events such as employer talks, open days, course introduction meetings, and marketing initiatives, providing excellent customer service.
5. Support careers events throughout the year to track and encourage learner attendance and engagement.
6. Prepare learners for placements and job opportunities, including setting expectations, providing instructions, and gathering feedback from employers and students.
7. Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to drive the site's CEIAG strategy, increase on-the-job training opportunities, and support programs like Bravura.
8. Utilise Labour Market Information to inform careers advice delivery.
9. Assist the Head of Careers and Education in meeting CEIAG standards such as Matrix, Gatsby, and the Careers Quality Standard.
10. Support the development and delivery of career resources and activities promoting progression, training, and employment.
11. Deliver UCAS cycle elements for learners, parents, and carers, providing timely and effective guidance for university applications.
12. Work with curriculum teams to promote internal progression between levels.
13. Engage with local schools through assemblies, careers events, and campus tours to raise awareness of college offerings.
14. Provide targeted support to promote inclusivity among learners.
General and College Responsibilities
1. Participate actively in site-wide activities, including duty rotas, enrolment, marketing events, and staff/student activities.
2. Engage in training and team development to update skills and knowledge.
3. Comply with health and safety legislation and site requirements relevant to the role.
4. Take reasonable care for health and safety, adhering to the Health and Safety Policy and contributing to safety priorities.
5. Promote equality and diversity principles in employment and service delivery, familiarising with related policies.
6. Understand and comply with Safeguarding policies to protect vulnerable groups.
7. Undertake additional duties or projects as determined by the Principal or line manager, after consultation.
