An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Manager to join the National Pathology Programme, hosted by NHS Wales Performance & Improvement. This position will support the delivery of priority actions outlined in the Pathology Statement of Intent (2019), specifically focused on the recovery from COVID-19, while also aligning with the Diagnostic Recovery Transformation Plan for Wales (2023-2025).

The initial focus of this role will be the National Digital Cellular Pathology (DCP) project in Wales. The post holder will support the completion of the project specification and its transition into the procurement phase. The applicant will have extensive knowledge of project management and will have experience of tailoring project management methodologies. They will have the ability to liaise, develop and build relationships and effective lines of communication with stakeholders at all levels especially within the Pathology service.

The post holder will be based at River House, Ynys Bridge Court, Gwaelod-y-Garth, Cardiff however, staff are spending the majority of time working from home. There may be a need to travel across Wales to successfully meet the requirements of the post.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and manage projects within the Programme, including the Digital Cellular Pathology (DCP) project and other workstreams aligned with the MAG report. The post holder will be responsible for planning, delivery, monitoring, prepare progress reports and evaluation of projects to ensure agreed objectives are achieved within defined time, cost and quality parameters.

They will progress recommendations from the MAG report, translating these into clear, deliverable actions that support modernisation, standardisation and digital transformation across pathology services in Wales. The role requires effective management of complex workstreams, risks and interdependencies, and close collaboration with Health Boards, Welsh Government, and other key stakeholders.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Educated to Postgraduate Diploma level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Project and/or Programme management office qualification, PRINCE2, MSP or equivalent experience


Experience

* Experience of management and managing successful projects
* Effective partnership working in the public sector
* Experience of effective stakeholder working with external bodies
* Experience as a formal project manager.
* Experience of working within the NHS


Skills and Attributes

* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
* Track record of complex problem solving in a project management environment
* Competent in the use of desktop applications
* Advanced IT skills in a range of desktop applications e.g., Excel, Power BI


Other

* Travel around Wales, and possibly further afield on a regular basis
* Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards
