Inpatient Assistant Practitioner – Therapies Department
Band: 4 (pro rata if part-time) | Hours: 37.5 per week, 7‑day working | Flexible working options available for all MKUH roles.
We are recruiting for two band 4 Assistant Practitioner posts – one in our Trauma and Orthopaedic team and one in our Stroke Therapy team. Both posts involve an inpatient caseload with weekend working for the stroke service and additional weekend hours for orthopaedics following competency completion.
As a member of a dedicated therapy team, you will collaborate with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to deliver safe, quality care to patients with complex medical conditions. The role also includes supporting therapy assistants, students, and occasionally assisting with home visits or transferring patients to other wards.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct assessments, plan and progress treatment programmes, and support discharge processes as delegated by registered PT or OT.
* Organise and run exercise programmes (group or individual), assess and provide mobility aids, measure and fit adaptive equipment, and promote functional independence through transfer and mobility sessions.
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements.
* Inform and update all MDT members, service users and relevant stakeholders about changes to care plans and patient progress.
* Participate in staff appraisal, CPD activities and maintain a portfolio reflecting personal development.
* Contribute to evidence‑based practice projects, audits and outcome measurements with the Lead PT and OT.
* Attend in‑service training, tutorials, individual training sessions and peer review sessions.
* Teach therapeutic skills to other healthcare professionals, students and agencies such as social services.
* Plan and adjust own caseload daily to meet service and patient priorities.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
• Appropriate qualifications and experience for a band 4 Assistant Practitioner post, as per the person specification.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting is essential, and experience in a rehabilitation context is an advantage.
• Demonstrated proactive and flexible approach, capable of working well on own initiative.
