Brief Description
You will perform structural examination work, maximising efficiency and effectiveness and ensure compliance with all relevant standards. All duties must be delivered safely and in accordance with the requirements of the client.
About the role (External)
This role consists of various tasks including:
1.Carrying out site examination of structures to determine the structural condition as allocated within the Alarm system and within defined timescales
2.Carrying out specified site examinations using roped access, if qualified
3.Compiling and submitting condition reports using the Alarm electronic system or other agreed process and submit for reviewing by the Examining Engineers team
4.Performing special examinations as directed including assistance with monitoring schemes for sensitive structures
5.Undertaking reconnaissance visits
6.Providing assistance with specialist examinations undertaken by the Examining Engineers team, including unique structures and tunnel examinations
7.Undertaking all on-call duties in support of rapid response, including bridge strike
8.Assisting in the provision of safety critical site support duties as required
9.Co-operating with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute, where appropriate, to continual improvement initiatives
10.Making observations and technically based decisions within sphere of competence for the role
11.Offering recommendations for consideration by Examining Engineers team
12.Making decisions and taking action on site in respect of immediate safety issues, imminent structural failure and operational capabilities of structures following bridge strikes, at times under pressure
13.Having a direct impact on performance through delivery of completed examination reports
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
1. GCSE pass in English Language
2. C&G/ NVC Level 3 in any building construction trade (additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu on an individual basis)
3. STE 4/ SCMI competent
4. Individual Working Alone
5. Bridge Strike Examiner
6. IT Literate with minimum word processing and drawing application
7. Full driving licence
8. Good communication and interpersonal skills
9. Work alone with minimum supervision
We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:
10. ONC/HNC level qualification / Technician Engineer (ICE)
11. Previous experience in the rail industry and knowledge of railway practice
12. Controller of Site Safety/ Engineering Supervisor
13. Confined Space Awareness/Training
