Sonographer (Bank)

Salary Up to £45.00 per hour
We have an opportunity for a Sonographer to join the team in the Imaging department. This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis. We need a sonographer who is flexible to work a couple of shifts per month to cover holidays and additional lists. Availability is flexible – evening lists, weekdays or Saturdays. The work covers general medicine and gynaecology; obstetrics is not included. A Philips Epiq 5G ultrasound machine is currently in use, and a new Canon machine will be delivered soon – full training on Canon will be provided.
Duties of this role include:
* You actively participate in the efficient and safe operation of the Imaging Department, providing a consistent, high‑quality ultrasound service to all patients.
* You carry out diagnostic ultrasound scans within your scope of competence as agreed with the Clinical Services Manager – Imaging / Clinical Lead, maintaining high technical and quality standards.
* You assist clinical modality leads to plan and maintain an effective workflow within the department, as requested.
* You complete and maintain applicable departmental records, including the submission of patient charges in a timely manner.
* You participate in, and contribute to, quality assurance tests within the Imaging Department.
* You participate in supervision, training and peer review within your area of competence/expertise.
* You report all equipment malfunctions or faults to the manager and, if necessary, undertake any further action to ensure safe operation of the equipment.
* You comply with the imaging department policies, protocols and SOPs.
* You comply with all relevant mandatory training.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
* A broad range of sonography competencies matched to the job description.
* Experience of autonomous practice and independent reporting is essential.
* Experience of customer care, including interacting with challenging customers and situations.
* A Diploma in medical ultrasound (DMU) or a post‑graduate certificate or diploma (Pg Cert / Dip).
* Competency to assess, scan, diagnose and report ultrasound caseload, maintaining accurate patient records at all times.
* Demonstrable understanding of the requirements of safe clinical practice and the responsibilities and accountability associated with this role.
* Understanding of the importance of health & safety regulations; maintaining good ergonomics and posture while scanning to reduce the risks associated with repetitive strain injury (RSI).
* Experience in performing/reporting the following sonographic examinations: abdominal, renal, gynaecology (transvaginal, transabdominal).
