Lead with integrity. Shape governance that builds trust.
Karibu Community Homes was formed in April 2024 through the merger of Inquilab Housing Association and Westway Housing Association, creating the UK's largest Black and Minority Ethnic-led housing provider. The name Karibu means "Welcome" in Swahili, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity, belonging, and community. Today, we manage over 1,900 homes and serve thousands of residents across London and the South East, with a clear mission: to provide safe, sustainable homes and deliver services that people value and trust.
We are seeking an Assistant Director - Governance and Business Assurance. This is a pivotal role for someone who can ensure Karibu meets the highest standards of governance, compliance, and assurance. Acting as Company Secretary, you will provide expert advice to the Board and Committees, oversee statutory and regulatory compliance, and lead frameworks that manage risk and performance across the organisation. You will also be a trusted confidant to the Chief Executive, supporting decision-making and ensuring governance underpins our strategic ambitions.
You will lead the development and implementation of governance frameworks, maintain robust systems for risk management and internal audit, and ensure Board and Committee meetings are well‑organised and compliant. Your remit will include supporting Board renewal and effectiveness reviews, overseeing GDPR compliance and data governance, and ensuring our practices meet regulatory standards. This is a role that demands both technical expertise and the ability to influence at the highest level.
Collaboration is key and you will be a visible leader, working closely with colleagues, engaging with stakeholders, and connecting with the communities we serve. Collaboration and influence will be key to your success.
You will bring relevant experience from working in a regulated sector and will lead with integrity, bring expertise in governance, compliance, and risk management, and influence at the highest level. You will have experience working with Boards and Committees, strong organisational and communication skills, and the confidence to challenge constructively while maintaining positive relationships.
At Karibu, our values guide everything we do: Service – putting customers first; Trust – acting with honesty; Accountability – owning outcomes; Respect – treating everyone fairly; and Strength – showing ambition and resilience. If these values resonate with you, we would love to hear from you.
Join us and help shape a future where governance builds confidence, and communities thrive.
