Job Title: Virtual Fracture Clinic Lead APP
Hours: 30 per week (worked over 4–5 days including a Monday)
Contract: 14‑month maternity cover starting June 2026
Band: 8a (Salary: £61 631 – £68 623 a year, pro rata)
Location: St Helier Hospital, Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, SM5 1AA
Main Duties
* Manage and develop the Virtual Fracture Clinic Service for the Trust, ensuring timely and appropriate care for orthopaedic trauma patients.
* Lead the band 6 physiotherapist within the rotation from the MSK department.
* Liaise closely with the Orthopaedic Consultant of the Week to discuss treatment plans for patients presenting through ED.
* Request investigations (bloods, X‑rays, CT/MRI) and set out plans of care.
* Explain treatment plans to patients and, where necessary, provide counseling for distressing news.
* Delegate tasks to junior nurses as needed.
* Create and analyse reports for the VFC, implementing service improvements.
* Maintain accurate patient data in the database and review waiting list numbers against waiting times.
* Refer patients to other specialties when appropriate.
* Lead audit of evidence‑based outcomes and implement improvements.
* Maintain high standards of clinical care, reflecting patient and family feedback and national guidelines.

Person Specification
Essential
* Significant experience treating trauma and orthopaedic patients in an acute setting.
* Experience in ordering and interpreting diagnostic images.
* Evidence of leadership and operational management of a healthcare team.
* Knowledge of safeguarding children and ability to act upon concerns in line with Trust/local policy.
* Experience at Band 7 level.
* Able to manage and discharge a wide range of adult and paediatric presentations.
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council or Advanced Clinical Practitioner status.
* Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience.
* Post‑registration training in Trauma & Orthopaedics, CPD and reflective practice.
* Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
* IRMER qualification.
Desirable
* Level 3 Safeguarding (must be achieved if appointed).
* Master’s degree in Advanced Practice (or working towards).
* Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification (or working towards).
